Josh Elliott

I Wanted Out of "GMA" So Bad

I Took a Pay Cut!

4/1/2014 6:54 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

Josh Elliott Leaving GMA

Josh Elliott was so disgusted with ABC ... he took a pay cut of more than a million dollars ... multiple sources connected with both ABC and NBC tell TMZ.

Our sources say ABC offered Josh between $4 and $5 million to stay, but he chose NBC despite the fact that they offered him just over $3 million.

We're told Josh was at the point of no return when Robin Roberts signed a $14 million a year contract to anchor GMA.  He felt slighted by the ABC offer and just wanted out.

Sources say the feeling is mutual.  As one source put it, "He's definitely an abrasive guy."  Another source says, "People hated him.  He was always just rude."

And get this ... we're told just weeks ago Sr. VP of ABC News James Goldston confronted Amy Robach -- Josh's replacement on GMA -- and called her "toxic" because she created tension on the set.  Indeed, we're told Amy and Lara Spencer "hate" each other and can't hide their contempt.

Another source says Robin Roberts hasn't helped matters -- one person saying she acts like a "diva" on the set.

As for Josh's future ... our network sources say NBC did NOT promise Josh any role on "Today," but we're told there's no doubt he's got to the top of the heap as the likely successor to Matt Lauer.

Morning TV ... it's just like grade school, only all the students are really rich.

Okay first of all lets understand that GMA is nothing more than a Disney advertisement agency. Everything it does is to promote Disney. Robin Roberts, double cancer survivor, black and gay. You don't think Disney doesn't love that? Why do you think they pay her what they pay her for. Laura is the worst thing that every happened to GMA what fluff. Sam left for the same amount of money and Josh left for a pay cut what does that say about GMA. If George is smart he will run for the hills.. You ever actually use a watch and see how much of the two hours they are actually on. Between local news and weather it isn't any time at all. To bad it was once a good show. Now just another Disney front.

In my opinion I feel ABC has become like the two faced people that you thought were your friends until you realize it's kid of like Disney in that it is a fantasy then the ride is over. They all couldn't seem to get enough of using the whole "we're family "line. The take away don't let the love go to your head

I just cannot picture the morning news reporters being dramatic and hateful toward each other. They are so positive and innocent when they are on TV.

TMZ your full of ****, always stirring up crap. You can have a decent show by just telling the truth. Your picking on GMA and causing trouble, its good that no one really believes most of what you report. Jews have always been the trouble makers anyway. Im thru with the tv show and this You guys are so hated especially your paparazzis.

am i the only one who is tired of being force fed course after nauseating course of RR?
It is increasingly hard to take her seriously, she may only be there because she is gay, black, had cancer, is privileged enough to have it 'celebrated' on TV like she is the only one who ever had cancer. How rude. how many have died not having her privileges?
what's next, having a baby!! will we be in OR for that too?
can we watch the artificial insemination like we watched the the chemo?
GMA has become a bloated Extra, maybe even a colorized Soupy Sales show or less important ET or any of its spin offs.
this fraud and phony needs to be exposed, do your best. take off the gloves and swing away.
