Paula Deen Restaurant

Sorry We Screwed You Over ...

But Here's Our Card!

EXCLUSIVE

The employees at Uncle Bubba's Seafood & Oyster House weren't sent packing empty-handed ... TMZ has learned they were given a business card and a list of restaurants in the area that are hiring. Better than nothing, right?

As TMZ previously reported, Bubba's -- the restaurant at the center of the Paula Deen racist controversy -- closed down Thursday morning out of the blue ... with some employees finding out on Facebook and others hearing the news from the restaurant once they arrived at work.

One employee told us they were paid through Wednesday and got vacation pay along with  two weeks severance.

The employee said the whole ordeal was particularly hurtful, since so many staffers stuck up for the Deen family during the controversy -- some patrons threw food at them and they still defended Paula.

Oysters and employees -- they all get shucked.

Most restaurant employees do not get severe ce pay and paid vacation. I am not saying the way they handled the closing was right, but they got more than most restaurant employees would get. I live in a state where they can fire you without cause, and just tell you to leave...no notice, unless you work in a job with a contract. Servers and cooks are not usually contractual jobs. The WSJ said that the restaurant was never profitable and the land it sits on is more valuable as a development project...so there it is!

Restaurants close all the time. Most just lock up and walk away and the staff never hears from them. At least they did a little homework for them too look for work

They'll make a hell of a lot more money working at the Crab Shack anyway, and won't be treated like crap in the process.

And Paula was just beginning her comeback. When you treat the little people like this, you lose a lot of support. This was very poorly done. Good luck, Paula, you are going to need it even more after this.

That's the way a lot of companies let you know. TMZ is making a big deal out of it because it's Paula. Move on already.

I especially like that one of the restaurants on the list is The Lady & Sons...that is a Paula Deen owned restaurant.

She gave them vacation pay, and two weeks severance pay AND gave them an automatic referral to other restaurants to work. What else do you want from this woman??? Business is business people, and when the media starts a crusade against a business, don't be surprised when it shuts its doors. Best of luck to the employees and to Paula Deen's future endeavors.

It's Paula Deen, y'all. The lady with fresh gravy pumping through her veins from a heart made of good ole fashioned 'Murican racism.
