Stephen Colbert
has been named as David Letterman's replacement, taking over as host of CBS' "Late Show."

Letterman announced just last week he was retiring in 2015. According to CBS, Colbert is being given a five-year deal.

In making the announcement, Colbert said, "Simply being a guest on David Letterman’s show has been a highlight of my career. I never dreamed that I would follow in his footsteps, though everyone in late night follows Dave’s lead. I’m thrilled and grateful that CBS chose me. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have to go grind a gap in my front teeth.”

Colbert was part of "The Daily Show" from 1997 until leaving to host "The Colbert Report." Colbert has hosted that show on Comedy Central since 2005.

He is ugly, boring and will not watch. Chelsea Handler on the other hand makes you laugh even on small details.
Hope he fails so she can take over.

Sounds like the right choice to me. But I don't watch late night tv so what do I know. Well, I do know Chelsea Handler didn't have a chance in hell of getting the gig.

AWESOME! I've always preferred the Tonight Show, but now it's basically SNL lite. I think I'll follow Colbert to CBS when the time comes. Congrats to Colbert. Will be interesting to see him not in his Colbert Report persona.

I love Colbert but do we really need a replacement? We've already got Fallon, Conan, Arsenio and Kimmel. I think the late-night talk show is a dated idea that needs to be retired. Why not counter-program, CBS?

They'll need to give him some good material and make sure he doesn't do a lot of the quirky, unfunny ad libbing he does in interviews.
John Stewart is just as weird. Neither are good stand up comedians.
