Hero Cat Owner

Family Will Not Sue Dog Owners

5/16/2014 12:50 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

051614_cat_family_tmz_live_launchupdate_graphic_red_bar12:10 PM PT -- Tara's owners were just on TMZ Live ... and explained why they're not suing their neighbors. They also talked about Jeremy's recovery from the attack.

You gotta see the kid ... he's cute as hell.
The owners of the dog that mauled the boy who was miraculously saved by his cat have just gotten away with metaphorical murder ... because they'll have to pay next to nothing and they've dodged a lawsuit.

Erica and Roger Triantafilo tell TMZ ... their insurance will cover almost the entire medical bill, so the only thing they want from the dog owners is the deductible -- $155!!!

The attack -- now seen 'round the world -- could have turned into a wrongful death case were it not for the pet cat, Tara, which chased the dog away.  As it stands, the injuries little Jeremy suffered were serious.  And Erica tells us ... she too was bit on the leg as she tried to save her son.

Erica says her family is not looking to punish their neighbors.  In fact, she says they're still friends.

As for the dog ... it will be destroyed.

Bullet dodged.

They have a strong case if they did want to sue.. The dog didnt have a leash and the owners are held responsible for negligence.

They should sue

As an animal lover who lives with cats (and people), I do find it very upsetting that the dog cannot be rehabilitated and that it has to die. I understand why although it is still sad. I wonder how well the dog was cared for to go after a person like that? I've seen dogs chase people on bikes, but not do something like that.

Didn't see the dog anywhere near the mom, so how did she get bit in the leg? Looked like the dog ran off unless it came back for more.

Another case of good intentions but bad judgement. in a case like this, you are suing their insurance company, not the neighbors personally. Who knows if the child will have psychological trauma or other issues.

Whilst I am annoyed at the lack of care the neighbours showed for not restraining their dog, I am glad there is another American family who isn't going to take the cowardly greedy route and sue. Everything in your country is about Lawsuits.

They shouldn't kill the dog :( I know he hurt the boy but the dog doesn't have to die for's a dog. We should start a petition to save the dog.

well they lose their dog and the insurance covered the surgery and, most importantly, the child is ok. Good ending.

They could sue and create a education fund for there son, not for themselves, talk to them Harvey

So again because of stupid humans, a dog has to pay the price. And there is something odd to this story, who doesn't sue nowadays for anything? I suspect that if this ever went to court it would come out that the kid was probably antagonizing the dog over a period of time and the dog had enough finally. It's just too odd to not sue anymore ...
