Maya Angelou

Dispatcher Suspended

Over Oprah Trash Talk During 911 Call

5/30/2014 3:12 PM PDT BY TMZ STAFF
breaking news

An emergency dispatcher who can be overheard in the Maya Angelou 911 call was suspended for criticizing Oprah Winfrey in the middle of the emergency.

John Ruckh -- a dispatcher in Winston-Salem North Carolina for 24 years -- is heard in the background ... making critical comments to someone about Oprah.

Ruckh -- who did not take the actual call -- is heard telling someone that Oprah has fallen out of grace because of an interview she did, where he claims she stated, "There are still generations of people, older people, who were born and bred and marinated in it, in that prejudice and racism, and they just have to die."

Ruckh insists he used no racial slurs during the conversation, saying, "Unfortunately I work in a high-profile job and everything's recorded."

The audio is really hard to hear, but take a listen.

What a crock of ****....ALL OF US should be concerned about freedom of speach! WTF? What was the big we have to have special rules as a white person on what we say? Or as a black person will have more latitude as to what they can say? All of this is so F'n screwy .... and to make the masses happy the dispatcher is suspended? makes no sense!

Maya was a fraud like the rest of Oprah's crew. Chorpa was a new age quack, Bradshaw was a plagiarist, Dr. Phil has "iffy " credentials and Maya was pimp turned into a bad poet!

Miss J

I don't think think he should have been suspended... I love Oprah, and I don't agree with what the dispatcher said, but he was not on a call, so he should have the right to hold a conversation... He didn't say anything horrible.

How is parroting Oprah's own words to a coworker considered trash talk?

So Nasty So Rude

Why was he even talking that loud in the first place while at work and working for a 911 dispatch call center? That's the problem not him talking about Oprah.. Wake up ppl..?u try being that loud at work and wait for something to happen.. Go ahead waiting!

She actually did say that!! Why is it wrong to say that she's fallen out of favor because of it? Why is it that people can't have opinions anymore? I hardly think repeating what someone said is a fire-able offense. It's ridiculous. This country concentrates on the wrong issues.

To me and this is just me id rather hear 911 operators kicking the bull**** about anything cause to me that means there is nothing going on you know like emergencies so if they have time to kick back and relax its a good thing isnt it
