Breaking NewsTeam USA sprinter Torrin Lawrence -- one of the best sprinters in the country -- died Monday morning after his car was struck by a tractor trailer ... officials confirm.
The 25-year-old -- who recently won a gold medal with the U.S. in the 4x400 relay at the IAAF World Relays -- was driving in Georgia around 1:40 AM when his car blew a tire and came to a stop.
Lawrence got out of the car to call 911 -- but a big rig struck the vehicle ... which knocked the car into Torrin. Lawrence died in the wreck.
USA Track & Field CEO Max Siegel issued a statement saying, "Torrin represented USATF with pride and passion, and had an incredible future ahead of him. We join those who will miss him deeply."
Lawrence was a standout at the University of Georgia -- and holds the NCAA record for fastest indoor 300m sprint.
