Tony Stewart

Hits and Kills Another Driver

During Dirt Track Race

081014_tony_stewart_launchupdate_graphic_red_bar7:45 AM PT -- Stewart has pulled out of today's Sprint Cup race. His team says Regan Smith will fill-in behind the wheel of Stewart's #14 car.
NASCAR superstar Tony Stewart drove his race car into another driver Saturday night … sending the man to the hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

Kevin Ward Jr. had gotten out of his #13 car after an on-track accident involving Stewart during a sprint car race (dirt track) in Canandaigua, NY.

20-year-old Ward appeared angry after the wreck and attempted to point and yell at Stewart as he drove past in his #14 car on the next lap -- but Tony ended up hitting him … sending Ward flying down the track.

Hours after the accident, cops said they were investigating Ward's death as an "on-track" incident, and not a criminal matter. But it could turn into one if the evidence warrants.

Stewart was supposed to race Sunday in the Sprint Cup race in Watkins Glen, NY.

He's stupid, why would he stand in the middle of the road? He killed himself.

After watching the video I don't really think Tony meant to kill him or even meant to actually hit him, but I think he sped up/revved his engine and got closer to Kevin just to taunt him. And he should be charged for his death if he did that and ended up killing him.

Kartrashian Klown

Who gets angry in the middle of a race and walks towards racing cars? The deceased was not thinking. If u c the video, he almost got run over by another car, yet he continues toward Stewart. Maybe he wanted to die or was in denial that it wont happen to him. Either way, it was stupid.

Good riddance!

I'm betting Stewart was trying to roost him with a spray of dirt, which caused the rear end to come around and catch Ward with the open tire. Roosting people, at least at a safer distance, is not an uncommon way to say 'screw you' on dirt tracks. But then again, it's not like Stewart is a rookie driver. It looks like both drivers made a series of incredibly bad choices and Ward paid the price for it with his life.

Unbroken Chain

I think that Tony was trying to scare him and made a fatal error. This isn't good at all

Seems that he got so angry that he stopped thinking. Either that, or he was suicidal. Sad.

Ward should have never gotten out of his and walked into the middle of the track. Ward was wearing an all black race suit and was dark on a dirty track. Unfortunately a fatal mistake by Ward. RIP Ward. If you watch the video the blue n white car had to swerve out of the way of Ward and TS was right behind him so there is a chance that TS didn't even see him because of the attire of Ward. Donno, wasn't there. I feel bad for the Ward Family and Friends. Prayers n Thoughts are with you all.

I think it's hard to tell from the video whether it was an accident or an intentional hit. There was a lot of anger going around. Either way, it's pretty fckd. Terrible way to have to die.

There should be a rule that if you get out of your car for anything other than an emergency you can't race in the next 2 (or whatever) races. Having #13 didn't help either.

Stewart will pay his way out of this, but karma cant be bought!

I've seen Tony drive dirt track in person and his tumultuous temper is worse there than in NASCAR. I hope he's held accountable for this one.
