Robin Williams

Early Stages of Parkinson's Disease

8/14/2014 11:21 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF
breaking news

Robin Williams' wife says he was in the early stages of Parkinson's disease at the time of his death -- but she says he wanted to keep that battle under wraps.

Susan Schneider just released a statement, saying ... "Robin's sobriety was intact and he was brave as he struggled with his own battles of depression, anxiety as well as early stages of Parkinson's Disease, which he was not yet ready to share publicly."

Susan does not draw a connection between the Parkinson's and Robin's suicide.

She added, "It is our hope in the wake of Robin’s tragic passing, that others will find the strength to seek the care and support they need to treat whatever battles they are facing so they may feel less afraid.”

Too many conflicting stories. He had Parkinson's, he fell off the wagon, If his sobriety was in tact, why had he gone to rehab? blah blah blah.... Just let his soul rest in peace.

And the excuses start now!!!

Pretty sad but not uncommon. When someone is diagnosed with a disease like Parkinson's or Alzhiemers they are more likely to commit suicide because they do not wish to be a burden on their families as the disease progresses.

I SAW him in 1996 (ish) his voice sounded like Mrs. Doubtfire.. he bowed when walking up the stairs at the restaurant i was in ( Vancouver, Canada) He said the the hostess "Oh Helllloooo" just like the character he played. he was very, VERY mild mannered.. we sat 5 tables over from him, and as the night went on he started getting WILD!!!!!!!! jokes, loud, and funny.. I assume it was the wine..

If Robin wasn't ready to share his own health information with the public, why then did his wife?

She is saying because it will come out anyway. Better from her than someone else and also may help some of his fans gain a better idea of some of the things he was going through.

BillyBob Again

Robin Williams lives on in his movies, and that's enough for me. His last movies were sh*t, his death is irrelevant artistic wise. More, i do not know from this guy, and i do not claim that i 'loved' him, like most idiots here!

3 - he was good friends with dr. who participated in awakenings - williams was well versed in parkinson's

he knew what was coming - too bad he did not reach out to michael j. fox who lives with the disease

People are asking why there is SO much commentary on Robin Williams' death. It is because there are so few deservedly-named "stars" in Hollywood today...actors and performers whose God given talents are so far reaching. He made us laugh, cry, reflect and hope. In a world where reality "stars", self-indulgent, immature Justin Bieber, and narcissistic, no-talent Kim Kardashian are praised as "celebrities", we remember that the true celebrities and entertainers of this world are fading from Hollywood. The greats are slowly leaving us and we mourn their loss. Robin, we thank you for sharing your gifts with us and we will continue to celebrate your life.

Explains why he couldn't slit his wrists successfully.

What he was going through, is very personal and for his family to work through in privacy.
He gave us what he wanted to share and that was quite a bit.
He was not just an extremely talented man, but a compassionate and kind soul. May he rest in peace.

my 2 cents

Instead of issuing statements, the wife needs to put this man to rest. Any talk about the state of his health, should be discussed later. I'm sure that Babs and the rest of the TV talkers are making offers for a sit down. Very sad to say, but alas true.

Whatever the reason, it is sad, but why does my gut tell me that she is mentioning Parkinson's because she thinks it sounds better than saying he killed himself due to his bi-polar disorder?

What does Michael J Fox, Linda Ronstadt and Robin Williams all have in common besides Parkinson's Disease? They all had enough money to buy and do enormous amounts of cocaine over many years. There HAS to be a connection.

My opinion there is a connection to the Parkinson and the suicide. Due it depression being on of the effects and all the meds. All the variables don't help. My opinion only from experience
