Deadmau5

Of Mice Against Men ...

Disney Fights DJ Over Ears Logo

9/2/2014 5:15 PM PDT BY TMZ STAFF
EXCLUSIVE

0902_disney_deadmou5_compositeDeadmau5 is now in a legal brawl with Disney over whether his famous headgear is too similar to its logo  -- but the DJ says the Mouse House hasn't made a squeak about this for a decade.

In documents filed Tuesday ... Disney claims Deadmau5's logo is too similar to their famous Mickey ears, and they're trying to block him from getting a trademark in the U.S.

Of course, Deadmau5 has been wearing his mouse head costume for 10 years now -- and his attorney Dina LaPolt tells TMZ he already has a trademark for it in 30 other countries ... including Japan, Germany, Italy and the U.K.

Deadmau5 applied through the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office last year.

In the docs, Disney states its ears have been a thing for more than 60 years, and says granting Deadmau5 the trademark would damage its business in the U.S. and around the world.

But Deadmau5 doesn't seem bothered by Disney's filing ... telling us he won't be bullied, and is prepared to fight to protect his rights to his property.

Expect plenty of ear-say if this ends up in court.

How stingy. As if Disney hasn't made enough money already over several decades.

This guy has been wearing the mouse techno head for over 10 years and now Disney has a problem with it ? Since when is it they have the market on a mouse head that sits on a persons shoulders and lights up to the beat of the music that being played ? It's not a little black hat with tiny ears on it that costs an incredible amount of money that Disney has absolutely no problem charging family's for.. Maybe someone should sue over that...

Whether he is imposing on the TM or not, Disney will drain him for a good chunck of his worth...whether he wants this battle or not. Disney is a beast and can barely lose. Even if they win, you lose by spending millions on a rare win. Maybe it's time to recreate and evolve just like the music does. Good luck Mau5

They didn't say boo until he tried to trademark something that's clearly theirs. No idea who this clown is, but highly doubt he'll win.

Disney is the biggest bully of them all, they sued a couple for wearing costumes to birthday parties in the small town, sued them for a million dollars...these people have no money and Disney didn't care. Sharks..

I'm really surprised Disney didn't sue him a long time ago. But really, the fact that they waited so long makes no difference. I agree with them. The logos are too similar. Dude needs to just suck it up. You have a logo patent in other countries. Keep your sucky music over there.

Ive seen deadmau5 many times, and the last thing people think is MIckey Mouse while seeing his Set.

i see disney's point tho. It probably isn't an issue for them the 10 years he has being wearing some silly headgear, but when he tries to patent it, thats kinda like letting him patent half of their logo. And his thing is obviously based on the mickey silhouette
