College ain't for everybody ... so says NBA star Jermaine O'Neal who tells TMZ Sports he has absolutely NO REGRETS about skipping school to go straight to the pros.

Of course, O'Neal -- who was leaving Mr. Chow with his wife -- went to the league back in '96, before the NBA implemented a rule requiring players to be 1 year out of high school to sign with a team.

And get this ... Jermaine says he doesn't watch the NCAA tournament either -- but it's not because he has no alma mater to pull for, it's because the competition to just too weak for his taste.

"The level of play isn't the same like it was 4 or 5 years ago."

Boom.

Check out the video to hear their thoughts on modern day basketball and the perks of retirement.

Now, excuse us for a sec ... we're going on a fro-yo run.

NBA Star David Lee

NBA Drug Testing Is

'Very Thorough'

EXCLUSIVE

082913_david_lee_launchGolden State Warriors star David Lee tells TMZ ... he thinks the NBA drug testing policy is rock solid -- and believes the reason only 1 guy has tested positive for hard drugs since 2000 is because the players are simply staying clean.

Lee was leaving Hooray Henry's nightclub in L.A. last night when we asked about the drug culture in the NBA -- specifically the statistic that the ONLY person who tested positive for a drug harder than weed in the past 13 years is Chris "Birdman" Andersen.

"I can tell you [the NBA is] very thorough with their testing," Lee told us.

As we reported, multiple NBA sources tell us players have found a loophole in the NBA drug testing policy -- because they're only tested 4 times a year, and after the 4th test "It's like Christmas Day."

But Lee disagrees ... explaining, "Testing is very thorough and very random  ... so it's very difficult to try to do that kind of stuff to avoid it."
