Jake's New BFF

Forget Matt and Lance, Jake Gyllenhaal has a new buddy.

Jake was spotted in San Diego last week, visiting the set of HBO's pilot "John from Cincinnati," where his pal Austin Nichols plays the lead. Gyllenhaal arrived and was immediately escorted to Nichols' trailer, where they spent most of the day. Austin left the trailer only to grab some grub for the two from catering tables. This photo shows the best friends at a Lakers game in 2006.

Then, this past Saturday, TMZ spies spotted Jake and Austin in Los Angeles, having a quiet dinner at Jar restaurant. The two eluded having their pic taken by paparazzi when they escaped through the kitchen's backdoor. Reese Witherspoon, who has been romantically linked with Jake, was not present.

This is not the first we've seen of Jake and Austin -- their friendship goes back to the 2004 filming of "The Day After Tomorrow." Unlike the trio of Jake, Matt and Lance, this duo appears to be a lasting friendship.

Me and Paris -- One on One?

graphic of a question markHow can I meet Paris for a drink?

Paris HiltonBryant, if you are anywhere in Hollywood (Hyde, Dragonfly, etc.), your chances are more than stellar at bumping into the hotel heiress. The socialite-turned-songstress frequents the clubs in Hollywood as if they were going out of style. By the looks of how friendly Paris is with her fans, it's not too far fetched an idea to think she wouldn't mind taking a minute to toast and cheers!

For a darker side of Ms. Hilton, take a look at this.

"Sopranos" Final Season Hits A High Note

Click here to return to TMZ.comThe final season of "The Sopranos" is setting up to be one of the most anticipated television experiences of the coming year. After an ankle injury for James Gandolfini, the premiere was pushed from its original date of January 2007 to sometime in March. But never fear -- it now appears that production is full swing.

Paparazzi caught up with the "Sopranos" cast on set yesterday in Queens, NY. Fat Joe, who recently added a collaboration with Paris Hilton on her debut album to his resume, was also on set. It isn't clear whether or not he was just dropping by to get his pic taken with some of his favorite stars, or if he will be making a guest appearance in a few episodes. TMZ contacted HBO, and reps would not comment on Joe's presence on set. Our guess is that he will be making a cameo on the hit show, using his already mob-like persona for more than just music.

On another note, Robert Iler, who plays A.J. Soprano (Tony's son), was looking a lot rougher than he has in the past. His character, usually portrayed as a pansy, may be grooming himself to follow in his father's footsteps. The suit and the goatee say, "I'm working for Dad now!" Again, HBO opted not to comment to TMZ, so for now, that's just our theory.

Cook's 'Tourgasm' -- Fans Dissatisfied

Dane CookDane Cook is one the hottest comedians working today. His fan following is extremely loyal; he has nearly 1.2 million friends on his MySpace page, nearly all of whom post pictures of themselves striking his trademark "Su-Fi" pose.

So when Dane Cook's official Web site sent around an email inviting fans to be part of the filming of the finale of Cook's new HBO show "Tourgasm," his fans responded en masse. What they were expecting was some kind of show... What they got was a lot of standing around, some water, a free poster and just a glimpse of their hero.

Fans were invited to the June 13th event via an email from Cook's management company, New Wave Entertainment. If they responded to the first email, they got a second email saying, "CONGRATULATIONS! You have been selected to be an on-camera guest for the last episode of Dane Cook's Tourgasm for HBO!!!" A third email, sent on the day of the event, gave fans the exact location of the event.

No details about what would happen once fans got there were given.

Chase: Sopranos to Be Taken Out Next Year

By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

"The Sopranos" will definitely be taken out next year, the show's creator said, though he can't say it won't hit the big screen at some point.

"It may be that in two or three or four years I could be sitting around and get an idea for a really great 'Sopranos' movie," David Chase told The New York Times in a joint interview with James Gandolfini, star of the HBO series. "I don't think that will happen. But if one morning somebody woke up and said this would make a really good, concise, contained 'Sopranos' story, I wouldn't rule that out."

Chase, also the series' executive producer, and Gandolfini reflected on the show and the trajectory of its central character, mobster Tony Soprano, in an article appearing in Sunday's editions.

Gandolfini's character never crossed the line into killing family members, except to spare a cousin a worse death by enemies.

"I think there's a place Tony knows that if he goes to, he's not coming back, and that's the place," Gandolfini said. "If you start killing family members, what's next?"

The newest 12-episode season will begin March 12. The Emmy-winning show, which began airing in 1999, is to wrap up with eight episodes starting next January.
