Nic Cage -- Targeted By IRS Over Extravagant Gifts

Nic Cage might be the GREATEST GIFT GIVER of all time -- because according to the IRS, the actor gifted roughly $1.8 mil to people between 2004 and 2009 ... problem is, he forgot to pay the taxes.

0415_nic_cage_exd_doc

TMZ obtained a federal tax lien filed against Cage in L.A. County -- which shows the actor is on the hook for $624,934.64 in unpaid gift taxes.

FYI -- federal tax laws require the gift giver to pay a 35% tax on all large gifts.

Here's a year-by-year breakdown on how much money Cage allegedly owes based on the gifts he gave ... notice how the size of the gifts diminished as his financial woes grew.

2004 -- $135,500.90
2005 -- $113,648.10
2006 -- $163,059.93
2007 -- $164,336.98
2008 -- $40,429.45
2009 -- $8,959.28

As TMZ has previously reported, Cage blamed his former business manager for making risky and reckless investments with his fortune ... resulting in "catastrophic losses."

Joe Francis Off the Hook for $33 Million Tax Bill

Joe FrancisJoe Francis no longer owes Uncle Sam $33 million in back taxes, which is news ... to Joe Francis.

As TMZ first reported, Joe was fighting the IRS over the $33 million tax lien they slapped against him this past November. Joe sued to get the government over it and, lo and behold, he won -- which came as great news to Joe.

When we called Joe for comment, he said, "Really? I paid it?"

After a little digging, Joe called us back and said he "thinks" the lien was just released (meaning the government dropped it) -- but that he didn't actually pay anything.

Must be nice to not even know if you just shelled out $33 million to the federal government.

Arnold Schwarzenegger: Hasta La Vista, Tax Lien

That tax lien against Arnold Schwarzenegger -- consider it terminated.

Arnold Schwarzenegger: Click to launch

According to documents filed last week in L.A. County Superior Court, the Governator has settled his tax issues with the government -- and the $79,064 lien against him is no longer in play.

Arnold's rep previously stated that the Guv was unaware of any problems with the IRS and insisted the whole thing was a misunderstanding.

It's unclear if Arnold ended up paying the lien or had it dismissed -- what is clear is that he's no longer in debt to Uncle Sam.

Arnold's people put out a statement saying the tax lien was the fault of a computer glitch.

Nic Cage's Vegas Home Hits Rock Bottom

Nicolas Cage Foreclosed Home sold Nicolas Cage's foreclosed Las Vegas mansion has finally been sold -- for nearly $3.5 million less than the actor paid for it in 2006.

According to the broker, Cage purchased the 14,306 sq. ft. Las Vegas home for $8.5 million back in 2006 -- which was foreclosed on in November of '09.

The home was repo'd by the bank -- and now the broker, Kenneth Lowman says the home has been sold for $4.95 million.

FYI -- the home has 6 bedrooms, 7.5 bath, a 16-car subterranean garage, an elevator and theater room.

Cage -- who has described his financial situation as "catastrophic" -- claims he's the victim of a reckless financial manager. The manager counters it was cage who was a reckless spender.

The actor still owes roughly $13 mil to Uncle Sam in unpaid back taxes.

Brooke Shields' Taxes -- A Little Nicolas Cagey

It appears Brooke Shields has a little something in common with Nic Cage -- the actress is accused of stiffing the IRS out of more than $10,000.

brooke shields taxes

According to a federal tax lien filed on December 31, 2009 -- the same day Uncle Sam smacked Cage for $6 mil -- Shields and her husband Christopher Henchy owe $4391.70 in unpaid taxes from 2004 and $5932.50 from 2005.

It's unclear as to why it took the government 4 years to clamp down on the couple.

FYI -- In 2005, Shields had a lot on her mind -- that was the year she got into a major media war with Tom Cruise over the use of psychiatric drugs.

Joe Francis to the USA - Merry Xmas, You're Sued

Joe Francis believes the United States of America is out to get him, and the "Girls Gone Wild" honcho is now making a federal case of it.

Francis filed a lawsuit claiming the IRS was pissed after Joe cut a misdemeanor plea deal in his felony tax fraud case. Joe says within 3 hours of the time he walked out of the courthouse a free man, the IRS concocted a scheme to unlawfully freeze $33 million of his assets.

According to the suit, the only circumstances under which the feds can freeze assets before getting a court judgment is if it looks like the taxpayer is about to flee the country, if the taxpayer is trying to move assets out of the reach of the IRS, or if the taxpayer looks like he's about to go belly up.

Joe says there was no basis to freeze his assets, other than revenge. So he wants the federal judge to unblock his account ... and he wants lawyers fees.

Nicolas Cage Targeted Again in Fraud Lawsuit

The stand-in-line-to-sue-Nicolas-Cage saga has just deepened -- Nic's being sued again for allegedly stiffing someone over a loan.

According to a lawsuit obtained by TMZ, Red Curb Investments loaned Cage $3.5 million for a real estate deal back in July, 2007. In return, Nic agreed to pay $29,166.67 a month, which includes 10% interest.

The suit goes into a lot of detail over how repayment was structured, but bottom line, Red Curb claims Nic owes a balloon payment of $1,850,269.67. But that's not all Red Curb is after.

Red Curb says Nic committed fraud and wants an additional $15 million. The fraud, according to the suit, is that Nic never disclosed he was deeply in debt to the IRS and needed the money to pay back taxes.

And there are millions more Red Curb wants to collect from Cage and co-defendant Samuel Levin, who incidentally Cage is suing. Cage claims Levin, his former business manager, is the reason he's gone belly up.

Cage's lawyer, legal pit bull Marty Singer, says, "Any claim that our client engaged in any fraudulent conduct is ridiculous."

UPDATE:
The fraud allegation is against Levin, not Cage. Cage is being sued for not repaying the loan.

Arnold Schwarzenegger: I'll Be Back Taxes

The United States government might have a bigger budget to work with -- if one bodybuilding governor would pay the back taxes it appears he never got around to paying.

According to documents filed in L.A. County Superior Court, Arnold Schwarzenegger owes the IRS $39,047 from 2004 and $40,016 from 2005.

In total the Guv owes $79,064.00 ... and as we all know, he's definitely not saving the money for rainy day traffic violations.

An official at the L.A. County Recorder's Office tells TMZ their system shows the lien is still active.

Arnold's rep released the following statement: "No one, including the IRS, has notified the governor of any issues whatsoever with his taxes. We are contacting the IRS to determine if the document in question, which appears to be a penalty for missing info and not for unpaid taxes, is legitimate and if there is any discrepancy to resolve."

Prince Von A-Hole vs. Ze Tax Man

Prince Von A-Hole isn't interested in the past -- but the federal government is, and they say his wife Zsa Zsa Gabor owes them $118,000.

Prince Von A-Hole

We caught up with His Eminence yesterday in Bev Hills, where he confirmed that Zsa Zsa lost money in the Bernie Madoff scandal, but he says he's paid some of the tax bill and plans on fighting the government over the rest.

A grown man in lederhosen vs. Uncle Sam? Should be interesting.

Mrs. Von A-Hole's tax predicament could be more Bernie backlash, because his dirty dealings reportedly cost the couple $10 million.
