Johnny Depp is doing what the president can't -- saving the economy one location at a time!
While filming his new film "Public Enemies" in Oshkosh, Wisc., Johnny's eating and drinking habits did more for the area's financial outlook than any reduction in interest rates. Depp and his pals -- who were staying at a hotel in nearby Appleton -- recently dropped a $1,500 tip on a $2,600 dinner at a local restaurant and that has residents saying, "Johnny Depp is welcome here anytime." Hillary & Obama, who?
The Michael Mann directed film filmed in -- and pumped cash into -- various parts of Wisconsin and Illinois, leaving a trail of very happy townies. See, Hollywood ain't all bad.

TMZ told you back in July that Johnny Depp bought a swanky downtown loft for a cool $2 mil -- but it's six months later -- and Jack Sparrow still hasn't moved in! What gives, matey?
According to Hot Property, Depp's new penthouse in downtown L.A.'s Eastern Columbia building is still vacant. In fact, the building hasn't even sold out yet -- there are still half a dozen lofts on the penthouse level available, ranging from 600K to $2.2 mil. Chump change!
But Depp isn't the only star in the Art Deco landmark -- comedian Ant and "Real Housewives of Orange County" hottie Slade Smiley also call the building home. On second thought, Depp is the only star in the building.

Seeing Johnny Depp and BFF director Tim Burton toy shopping is the weirdest thing the duo has done together since "Ed Wood."
Depp and Burton hit up London's Forbidden Planet on Monday, picking up bags of Dr. Who and Star Wars toys. What? No, "Edward Scissorhands" dolls?!
Their upcoming film, "Sweeney Todd," marks the sixth project Johnny and Tim have worked on together. Hopefully, it won't turn out to be the nightmare before Christmas.

When Victoria Beckham goes to an airport, the paparazzi follow ... for Johnny Depp, it's his fans. 
Depp landed in Japan yesterday, where he was completely engulfed by camera-wielding Captain Jack Sparrow enthusiasts waiting outside his terminal at the Narita International Airport.
Johnny's in the country for the world premiere of the newest "Pirates" flick, which opens stateside Thursday.

Johnny Depp's daughter, Lily-Rose, looks well as she takes a stroll along the Thames with dad.
Lily was originally thought to have had blood poisoning, but was later diagnosed as having an E. coli infection, which affected her kidneys. Johnny kept vigil at her bedside in a London hospital until the tot bounced back.
Depp is in England filming Tim Burton's version of Stephen Sondheim's "Sweeney Todd," which had halted production during Lily's illness.

Nine days after Johnny Depp's 7-year-old daughter was rushed to a London hospital, the cause of Lily-Rose's mysterious ailment is being pinned on a rusty tack.
According to In Touch, "the wound was left untreated" and "blood poisoning developed. It has now spread through her body and has affected her vital organs."
While there have been several conflicting reports on the severity of Lily-Rose's condition, Depp's reps tell the AP that she is "doing much better." The actor has reportedly not left Lily-Rose's bedside since she was admitted to the hospital on February 28.

TMZ has learned that the Oscar-nominated actor's Hollywood Hills living room features a gruesome electric chair -- with a stuffed mannequin sitting in it, perhaps like the one in this image. Talk about a "Dead Man's Chest!"
A source tells TMZ that Johnny adorned the dummy with a knit skullcap, the latest in capital punishment chic!
Sounds like "21 Jump Street" is no longer the scariest thing Depp has done.

After filming scenes for the third entry to the "Pirates of the Caribbean" franchise, everyone's favorite swashbuckler took time to meet and greet his fans.
While co-star Orlando Bloom tends to duck out of the fanfare, Johnny Depp has continually shown his appreciation for the people who've made "Pirates" one of the strongest box-office beasts.
As filming continues in the Redondo Beach area of Southern California, Jack Sparrow's ship, The Black Pearl, has been spotted floating off the shores, lit by torches at night.
"Pirates of the Caribbean: At Worlds End" hits theaters May 2007.

Captain Jack Sparrow, a.k.a. Johnny Depp, disembarked from his modern day Black Pearl Wednesday in Palos Verdes, Calif.
Depp was back in costume - wig, eyeliner, dreadlocks and puffy shirt- to continue filming parts of "Pirates of the Caribbean 3." The Oscar-nominated actor boarded a small transfer boat and made his way to the real (at least real onscreen) Black Pearl, currently anchored off the coast.
But not all of the movie is being filmed in the water, they have also recreated the famous ship on a Disney sound stage just beyond the Hollywood Hills in Burbank.
You're just going to have to be patient, however, to get your Sparrow fix. The third installment doesn't hit theaters till May of 2007.

After cleaning up at the Teen Choice Awards, Captain Jack Sparrow and his band of pirates headed back to the Black Pearl after a summer hiatus from filming "Pirates of the Caribbean 3."
The cast of next year's sure-to-be box office hit are now back on the ship off the coast of Palos Verdes, Calif.
After filming wrapped for the day on Tuesday evening, Orlando Bloom made a quick escape by jumping in his car and heading out. While Johnny Depp, on the other hand, found time to say hi and take pictures with the dozens of fans waiting to see the actor through a chain link fence that borders the set.
It's pretty clear why Depp walked away with the two Choice Movie Actor awards on Sunday night in both the comedy and drama/action categories. On- and off the screen- Johnny seems to be everyone's favorite movie star.
