Steve Harvey Racist NASCAR Crushed His Speed Dreams ... Racing Exec Sues

9/19/2016 2:14 PM PDT
Exclusive Details

Steve Harvey's bid to start a NASCAR team crashed and burned ... and at least one racing exec thinks it's because stock car racing honchos are racists.

Terrance Cox, the CEO of Diversity Motorsports, paints NASCAR as a stereotypical good ole boy network -- and says the league has shot down his numerous attempts to join its elite ranks.

According to a lawsuit, NASCAR even rejected a bid from Harvey last year. Cox says the comedian wanted to work with him to start a new racing team called "Steve Harvey Races 4 Education." Cox was down, but says NASCAR told Harvey it would never approve a team associated with Diversity Motorsports.

In the suit, Cox points out all 48 drivers in the league's top tier, Sprint Cup, are white ... and only one is African-American in its 2nd tier, Xfinity Series.

Here's the kicker ... Cox is suing NASCAR and nearly ALL of its racing teams for $500 million!

Ironically, one of the teams he's suing is JTG Daugherty -- which is 10% owned by Brad Daugherty ... the African-American former NBA star.

A rep for NASCAR is adamantly denying the allegations ... telling TMZ Sports the company "embraces all individuals interested and involved in our sport, whether as partners, fans, competitors or employees, and there is no merit to this lawsuit."

"Diversity both on and off the track continues to be a top priority for NASCAR and its stakeholders. We stand behind our actions, and will not let a publicity-seeking legal action deter us from our mission."

NASCAR also vows to sue Cox for defamation.

Police have said Gordon strangled Sharon and then killed himself with a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Nichols tells us there's never been a history of violence in the Gordons' long marriage.

He says he introduced Panic Switch execs to other big name NASCAR drivers, who cut deals with the company but ended up backing out after PS didn't pay royalties or show proof of sales.

TMZ broke the story ... Panic switch sued Kurt last month after they say Busch's alleged violent incident with his ex-girlfriend almost destroyed the company's image.

Tony Stewart Sued Kevin Ward's Parents ... Tony Recklessly Killed Our Son

8/7/2015 2:19 PM PDT
Breaking News

Tony Stewart could have avoided striking and killing Kevin Ward Jr. but instead chose to terrorize Ward by driving recklessly... so claims Ward's parents, who have filed a wrongful death suit.

The parents say Stewart had complete disregard for Kevin's life a year ago when his race car struck and killed the 20-year-old.

The lawsuit claims Stewart gunned his 700 HP car as he drove by Ward. Stewart's car slid and struck Ward with the rear tire, hurling him 25 feet. The suit claims Stewart gunned the engine to "terrorize" Ward.

There were rumors of beef between the two, which fueled speculation Stewart intentionally plowed into Ward with his car when he ran onto the track ... something he denies.

Stewart was cleared of criminal charges. Authorities also say Ward was high on weed when he got out of his car.

Ward's family still believes the death was avoidable and they want to take it to a civil jury.

Reps for Stewart have no comment.
