It started with one ... just a lonesome Alfonso Ribeiro doing the "Carlton Dance" in L.A. ... when suddenly, hundreds of people rushed in and joined in on the Tom Jonesness ... and it was AWESOME.

It all went down at the Universal Studios City Walk in Hollywood -- where the former "Fresh Prince of Bel Air" star was leading a group that tried to break the record for the most people in North America flash mobbing at the same time. Similar groups performed at the exact same time all over the country.

Besides "It's Not Unusual" ... the gang also busted out the famous "Apache" dance that Carlton and Will performed during the famous male strip club episode.

So far, it's unclear if the group managed to break the record.

It's been 15 years since "The Fresh Prince of Bel Air" went off the air, but it appears most of the cast members are still friends and actually hang out together.

Will Smith posted this pic of The Banks clan on his official Facebook page, which we're told was taken last week at a luncheon for the charity Sweet Blackberry -- which Karyn Parsons (Hilary) founded.

While Tatyana Ali, some guy, Parsons, Alfonso Ribeiro, James Avery and a pre-bald Smith were all sharing the love, noticeably absent were the two actresses who played the mom/Will's Aunt Vivian.

Some parents just don't understand.

The Banks family still has each other's backs -- because last night in Hollywood, Alfonso Ribeiro went to bat for his TV cousin ... telling TMZ that Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith are "all good" and definitely NOT getting a divorce.

Carlton would know.

Alfonso Ribeiro says he sprung into action to break up a barbershop fight in Hollywood last week ... because he didn't want to get SHOT!!!!

The former "Fresh Prince" star was at Katsuya in Hollywood last night when he explained the whole thing ... insisting the fight was simply, "Two real dumb people having a dumb argument."

Good news -- he didn't get shot.
Bad news -- he's gotta find a new barber.

Alfonso Ribeiro -- aka Carlton on "The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air" -- laid down the law this week inside an L.A. barbershop ... jumping into action MID-HAIRCUT to break up an expletive-laced brawlfest.

Sources tell TMZ, the fight broke out between two employees at "In the Cuts" in Hollywood -- after a disagreement over which should be turned up louder ... the TV or the radio.

It gets physical pretty quickly -- but Alfonso doesn't miss a beat ... reaching into the frame with his badass gold-watched arm to pull the two guys apart, saying, "Let go, let go."


Eventually, the tempers cooled off -- but we're told Al was so shaken by the ordeal ... he didn't even finish his haircut. The barbershop had no comment. Calls to Alfonso have not been returned.

It's the most random video on the Internet -- a collection of celebs singing "Let It Be" to promote a Norwegian TV show -- and even one of those celebs, Alfonso Ribeiro, has no idea what it's about.


We got the former "Fresh Prince" star outside of Trousdale last night where he said he hasn't seen the video yet. When we asked him how he got involved with it, he told us, "Someone came to me one day and said, 'Will you do this?' And I went and did it."

Alfie denies even being at Hyde last week -- he must have forgotten that we captured the whole thing on camera. Then he proceeds to stiff the valet again -- in front of cameras! What's he smokin'?

TMZ spotted Hyde regular Alfonso Ribeiro outside of Hyde, where he got into a major dispute with the valet over whether he paid.
