One sign Las Vegas Mayor Oscar Goodman might be a bad auctioneer: He turned down the highest bidder ... and then called her a "fat and short Bette Midler."


The Mayor let the unbelievable diss loose at a recent auction in Sin City, after a woman he repeatedly said looked like the Divine, red-haired, Vegas performer entered a bid of $2,750 for the item on the auction block.

In the video -- shot from a distance -- Goodman says he won't accept her money because "she's fat and she's short."

The other auctioneer quickly tried to steer the auction back on track ... but the damage had been done.

Going once, going twice ... cold!

Bette Midler got crazy applause at PURE nightclub, after her first Vegas performance at Caesars Palace.


Lance Bass and boyfriend Leo, Siegfried & Roy mingled with the ridiculously-straight Dog Chapman and wife Beth. Midler was applauded as the diva made her way into the club.

Federal agents raided PURE earlier in the day. The IRS has some questions about ever-pesky taxes the club may or may not have paid.

Looks like Bette Midler gave huffy hubby Martin von Haselberg a little lesson in "Who's the star in this marriage?"


Just a couple days after Marty snapped at a handler who didn't recognize him as Mr. Bette Midler, von Haselberg kept his distance (hiding behind a large bodyguard) as Midler alighted for a show at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week.

Despite photog pleas for him to get in the shot, von Haselberg -- a performance artist in the brilliant "The Kipper Kids" -- let the divine one do her thing without popping into the shot. Imagine the scenes from that marriage!

"First Wives Club" star Bette Midler needs to show off her hubby more often! Bette was posing for pics during Fashion Week in NY when her husband decided to join her -- but security had other plans! A guard tried to physically remove Bette's man, Martin von Haselberg -- but Marty wasn't havin' none of that! He told security, "I'm her f**king husband!" You can't blame them, no one knows who the eff he is!


Ms. Midler quickly confirmed that he was indeed her beloved, and security apologized. That's no way to treat the wind beneath her wings!
