Rob Lowe
Doggy-Style Rescue Mission

Rob Lowe is saving lives -- doggy lives.

Sources close to the actor tell TMZ -- Rob, his brother Chad, and his son Matthew have been volunteering with OneDogRescue.org for the past six months ... coordinating adoption events, renting mobile spay/neuter clinics, and even buying toys for the pooches.

We're told Rob's son is especially involved in the rescue process -- regularly visiting the pups, and even checking up on them in foster homes to make sure they're doing ok.

ODR works primarily with special needs dogs -- like "Kenny G" -- who broke his front legs when his abusive owner threw him out a window.

No surprise, Kenny G is one of the Lowe boys' favorites. JUST LOOK AT THAT FACE.

Rescued Celebrity Skiers -- Luck Saved Their Asspen

Chad Lowe, along with actors Rob Morrow, Fisher Stevens and Kim Painter averted a freezing cold disaster this weekend when they accidentally skied off course -- and into a rescue attempt already in progress in the Aspen Mountain Ski Area.

According to Pitkin County Sheriff's Office, the foursome dangerously trekked "out of ski area," after participating in a celebrity ski race earlier in the day. Fortunately for the group, they got "lost" in the same exact spot as a snowboarder named Chris Roberts, who had already phoned his sister for help. Robert's sister immediately alerted Aspen Ski Patrol.

While Ski Patrol pinpointed his location and planned the best course of rescue action, Lowe's group wandered into the very same restricted area. A short time later, the actors, along with Roberts, "met up with Ski Patrollers" and skied down to safety together.

The group was transported to the Pitkin County Sheriff's Office office for questioning. No one was injured during the incident.

The Remnants of a Marriage

Photogs spotted Chad Lowe on Friday, moving out of the Manhattan apartment he shared with estranged wife Hilary Swank.

The couple purchased the townhouse on Charles Street in the West Village for $3.9 million back in 2002. It had been on the market since June with an asking price of $8.25 million. The former home of Mr. and Mrs. Swank (we know who really wore the pants there) has two bedrooms, four floors, six fireplaces and two full baths. It even has its own website.

The apartment and its inhabitants were the subject of a New York Times feature back in 2005. That was in happier times.

Chad Lowe Gives Some Puppy Love

Chad Lowe made a rare public appearance at a fund raiser for homeless pets and was seen giving some genuine affection to a rescued dog named "Spunky".

Not much has been seen of the actor since the drama about his split from Hilary Swank and alleged drug abuse in his past. But it seems the plight of suffering animals like Spunky is what it takes to get him back in front of the photographer's lens.

Chad can be heard declining to be interviewed by a few magazines, but otherwise appears ready to re-emerge into the public eye.

Welcome back, Chad.

The Z List - This Week's Biggest Losers for 7/2 - 7/8

You might think that when a week has only three workdays instead of the usual five, that it would be difficult for denizens of the Zone to find ways to trip over the velvet rope. But you'd be wrong. It's the dog days of summer all right, and as we head into a monstrous "Pirates of the Caribbean" opening weekend, here's a look at some of the temporarily grounded VIP's. Savvy?

Marc CherryMarc Cherry: Just a year ago, the "Desperate Housewives" creator was the toast of Hollywood, basking in the glow of 15 Primetime Emmy Award nominations (the show would go on to win six), nods for three of his four lead actresses, and universal critical praise. But after TV reviewers generally thumbed their noses at the second season, the show yesterday collected only seven Primetime Emmy Award nominations, mostly of the hairstyling and costumes variety. The Emmy's are a strange beast, with shows and individual actors judged solely on the merits of a single submitted episode. For some unknown reason, Cherry sent in for Outstanding Comedy Series consideration the Season Two opener - clearly not one of the better episodes - and now, he's paying for that error in judgment.
