Daniel Radcliffe is coming to the defense of the singer he introduced on "Saturday Night Live" this weekend ... sorta.
Radcliffe was at the Bafta nominations ... when he was asked about
Lana Del Rey -- who's been TRASHED by music critics and people with ears alike who suffered through her baffling performance on the show (
below).
Radcliffe responded, "It was unfortunate that people seemed to turn on her so quickly."
He added, "I also think people are making it about things other than the performance. If you read what people are saying about her online, it's all about her past and her family and stuff that's nobody else's business."
Radcliffe concluded, "I don't think it warranted anywhere near that reaction."
Just days after interviewing "
Harry Potter" star
Daniel Radcliffe, 77-year-old
Larry King had already FORGOTTEN the actor's name -- telling us, "I love the kid, Dennis. He's a great guy."

We love him, too. But our favorite is Emily Watson.
Two weeks after his "Harry Potter" stunt double, David Holmes, hurt his back doing an aerial stunt, Daniel Radcliffe was spotted leaving the hospital where Holmes has been laid up.

Radcliffe was in NYC when the accident occurred on the UK set of "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows."
If a stuntman -- doing a stunt for YOU -- had a terrible accident on the set of YOUR movie -- and was so badly hurt, that his condition's been described as "critical" for several days ... wouldn't you wanna say something about the situation??

Not Daniel Radcliffe -- dude kept his magical trap shut in New York yesterday -- both times -- when we asked how stuntman David Holmes was doing.
FYI -- Holmes -- who was injured during an aerial stunt for the upcoming Harry Potter movie -- has just been transferred to a medical specialist in London who could further examine the damage to his back and legs.
Daniel Radcliffe was acting like he was all wrapped up in an invisibility cloak yesterday in NYC, because the dude refused to even acknowledge the Hollywood legend he just happened to be walking next to. The guy created the term "Pappers" for God's sake!

Apparently, Hogwarts doesn't offer a class on "respecting one's elders!"
Stars were confused left and right today in the Thirty Mile Zone -- and while our photog mixed up Judith Light with other '80s mom Ellen Travolta from "Charles in Charge," Jerry Springer mistook Speidi for actual celebrities.
Also: Fans thought Daniel Radcliffe was the best -- until he snubbed them -- and Terrence Howard thought he was a singer, but is he any good?
Daniel Radcliffe must have had some kind of magic stick up his butt the other day in NYC -- because he snubbed a huge group of Potterheads outside the New York Times building. Even
Will Smith stops for all his fans!
Might want to try that cloak of invisibility next time.
