Don Imus Apologizes for Ripping Kids Charity

Don Imus has apologized for slamming a commercial for a kids charity -- saying he was merely poking fun at a jingle that literally annoys everyone in possession of a working radio.

1104_don_imus_getty_ex

It all started during a commercial break on Wednesday's show when the Kars4Kids jingle started to play ... and Imus -- clearly not a fan of the jingle -- begged the singer to "shut up" and "go to hell."

Imus then groaned, "I should give you my Bentley -- you morons."

A rep for Kars4Kids tells TMZ they were flooded with emails -- and eventually posted a clip on their website with the title, "Is Imus really donating his Bentley to Kars4Kids?"

But the next day, Kars4Kids tells us Imus issued a "fairly thorough retraction and apology on air" -- and the group now insists that all is forgiven. A rep for Imus tells us, "Very catchy tune, very silly controversy."

That being said -- listening to that commercial is more tortuous than Abu Ghraib.

Don Imus Has Cancer

Don ImusDon Imus announced on his radio program this morning that he's battling stage II prostate cancer.

Imus' rep released this statement: "Don appreciates the good wishes he's already received from his listeners and viewers. After years at the Imus Ranch surrounded by inspirational children battling cancer, Don is well-prepared to fight this. And no, this does not make him eligible for the kids' rodeo competition."

I-Man -- I Was Just Being "Sarcastic"

Don Imus just pulled out the S-card -- sarcasm -- to defend himself against charges that he's a straight-up racist.

On his radio show this morning, he said he was just trying to "make a sarcastic point" when he asked yesterday, about arrest-happy NFL player Pacman Jones, "What color is he?" As Imus tried to explain, "What people should be outraged about is that they arrest blacks for no reason. I mean, there's no reason to arrest this kid six times."

As the I-man himself put it: There you go. Now we know.

Trump Talks LiLo

Mega mogul/media whore Donald Trump should start his own celebrity Scared Straight program.

Page Six asked The Donald to weigh in on the Lindsay Lohan DUI debacle and the Combover-ed One had this to offer: "Find what you love doing (other than drugs and alcohol), work hard, stay focused, get a new set of parents."

Trump couldn't resist the urge to fit a plug in for his new TV show. "Then join me on 'Celebrity Apprentice,' which is shooting soon -- I'll keep you straight!"

Imus/CBS May Settle

Shock jock Don Imus may not get his day in court. The drama-loving talk DJ is miffed that just before being fired in April for calling the Rutgers University women's basketball team "nappy headed hos," he signed a five-year $40 million contract, reports the Daily News. He's threatened to sue CBS for more than $120 million in lost wages and damages, but now it looks like Imus and his former employer will reach an agreement out of court.

CBS argued that Imus was fired for cause, while lawyers for Imus insisted that his broadcaster's contract included a clause specifying that his "irreverent" and "controversial" program was "consistent with company rules and policy."

No word on whether Imus will end up back on-air.

Jerry Garcia's Sink for Sale

What a long, strange trip it's been! Grateful Dead's long-dead guitarist Jerry Garcia's kitchen sink-along with odds and ends from his Marin County, Calif. home, and even the home itself, are for sale. David Koltys, who purchased the dancing bear's former cave ten years ago, has been systematically selling off Garcia's goods to benefit the Sophia Foundation, an organization that helps children during marital separations and divorces. Also up for auction: a Jacuzzi and stereo speakers.

Last year, Koltys held a similar auction. He sold Garcia's toilet for $2,500. What a flushing good time!

Master P's G-Rated Rap

Master PRapper Master P is taking a stand and pledging to clean up the image and lyrics of hip-hop music by forming a record label "with 100% clean lyrics." What the heck?!

In the wake of Don Imus' on-air racist debacle, everyone from Rev. Al Sharpton to Russell Simmons and even Oprah have called the rap industry to task for its offensive lyrics. In other words, check yo self, before you wreck yo self! Master P and his son Romeo are breaking from the pack and starting Take A Stand Records. The label will feature only those artists who have pledged to be role models, with proceeds going toward scholarship funds for underprivileged kids. Rap with a conscience, yo!

Although Master P admits he was once part of the problem and profited from explicit rap lyrics, he is now ready "to be part of the solution." While he doesn't expect "the entire industry to change overnight," Master P says, "There's too much negativity out there -- enough with the stereotypes. Hip-hop is a movement, and it is time for it to move forward." Word.

Take A Stand's first socially responsible release is due in the fall, and will be a collaboration between P and Romeo called "Hip Hop History."

Hardcore Fans Hump for Imus

Napppy Headed Ho'sPorn producer Kick Ass Pictures is getting into the charity game. The adult entertainment company, which bills itself as "the only porn company in the world to guarantee all natural breasts in all of its movies" says they are releasing a new adult DVD tiled "Nappy Headed Ho's." They say $1 from the sale of each DVD will be donated to a retirement fund for fired Don Imus.

The film will feature "girls with closely twisted or curled hair (the dictionary definition of 'nappy'), who have sex for money (the dictionary definition of 'ho')." This promises to be a great leap for society.

In a press release, Kick Ass president Mark Kulkis said, "We see this as a free speech issue. As an adult media company, we're especially defensive of free speech. Don Imus is a loudmouth and perhaps a bigot. However, CBS Radio was hypocritical in hiring Imus to be blunt and outspoken, then firing him for the same reason. Fellow broadcast personalities Ann Coulter and Pat Robertson spew anti-gay slurs, yet they are not fired by their networks." Hmmm, porno with integrity!

Kulkis says that if Imus turns down their donations, they'll donate them to the United Negro College Fund. As Imus proves, a mind is a terrible thing to waste.

Imus to CBS -- You Wanted "Irreverent," Now Pay Up!

Don Imus may get the last laugh -- because the contract he signed with CBS seems to court the very behavior that got him fired.

In Imus' multi-year contract with CBS Radio, seen by CNN's Jeffrey Toobin, the shock jock was told by his employer to be "irreverent" and "controversial. " CBS fired Imus for his "nappy-headed hos" comment. The question for a jury: Did Imus give CBS exactly what it wanted?

Imus is still owed $40 mil on the five-year deal. CBS is clearly in a bind, because not only does the contract require Imus to be "irreverent" and "controversial" but the document says those qualities are "desired by Company" and "consistent with Company rules and policies."

The fired shock jock has lawyered up with one of the country's top trial attorneys, Martin Garbus, who says that Imus plans to file a wrongful breach of contract suit against CBS.

Les Moonves Dumps Imus, Busts a Move

Les Moonves was in a partying mood after drop-kicking bad-boy Don Imus.
Les Moonves
TMZ spies spotted the current president of CBS getting down at "The Plumm" in NYC, just hours after giving Imus the pink slip.

Sources inside the nightclub tell TMZ that Moonves was with wife Julie Chen, host of "Big Brother" and co-anchor of CBS' "The Early Show." The two were there to watch his son Michael perform with his rock band.

Moonves and Chen partied until early Friday morning in The Pitt, a special VIP area of the club. We're told Moonves and Chen were "partying hard."

This Week's Biggest Losers 04/15/07

Don ImusIn a perfect Zone, the forthcoming sex tape from Season Two "American Idol" contestant Olivia Mojica would play out to the sounds of William Hung's "She Bangs," but for this sorry lot, a simple funeral march will suffice.

Don Imus: We had Don on last week's list, but since then, events have conspired to put him in the running for This Year's Biggest Loser. Stripped of his MSNBC simulcast and WFAN-AM syndicated morning radio show, he's now pushing the control buttons of "Imus in the Mourning." Would producer Bernie McGurk's ill-fated comments have sparked as big a furor had they been exchanged with a top-selling rap artist? You know, the kind that keeps radio parent company Viacom in the green via MTV and BET? Hard to say, but with the loss of Howard Stern and now the 66-year-old Imus, CBS Radio is suffering a serious case of jock shock.

Imus: "There Is No Malice in My Heart"

With his suspension not taking effect until next Monday, Don Imus took to the air today for WFAN's 18th Annual Radiothon to try and raise money for a good cause -- and to apologize. Again.

"I am horribly sorry I said it," he bleated this morning. "I know how it hurt these kids and they're going to tell me. But everyone knows what I've been doing for 30 years. It was a joke." Oh yeah, he's a riot.

MSNBC announced yesterday that it was dropping its simulcast of the "Imus in the Morning" radio show, after his disparaging remarks about the Rutgers women's basketball team. CBS Radio has suspended Imus for two weeks, effective April 16.
