In a very public display of gorgeous affection, the gorgeous couple strutted down the street holding their gorgeous hands in Manhattan on Thursday.

Everyone is really, really thrilled for them.

The movie is not a biopic.

Eva Mendes got the scare of her life last night ... Someone was following her as she was driving around Hollywood.

TMZ has learned, Mendes was so freaked out, she drove into the nearest safe harbor ... a police station.

We're told cops hit the streets but couldn't find the culprit.  But ... for safe measure, we're told cops escorted Eva home.

It's unclear whether it was a renegade paparazzi or a zealous fan.

Six photos of Eva Mendes -- partially in the nude -- are missing in action right now, according to the photographer who snapped the pics. Can we get an APB?



The photos in question were taken by Lyndon Chubbuck ... and scheduled to go on display at an art show later this week at Supperclub Los Angeles.

According to Lyndon, his works of art were nabbed somewhere between the printer and an art show last weekend.

Lyndon says he plans to file a police report tomorrow -- but strictly for insurance purposes because he believes, "The cops aren't really going to put a mad hunt out for my Eva photos."

Nude Eva? Something tells us police might be interested.

Lyndon says he's been able to get the images reprinted ... so the show will go on.

Cops raced over to Eva Mendes' home in the Hollywood Hills on Christmas morning after the actress called 911 ... scared someone had broken into her home ... someone who didn't use the chimney.



TMZ has learned Mendes made the call around 3:40 AM on Xmas morning -- after someone ... or something ... set off her house alarm, startling the actress. 

We're told officers quickly responded to the home and searched the premises -- but found no evidence of a break-in.

After another sweep of the place, Mendes felt she was once again safe -- and the officers went on their merry way.
