Jim Carrey's "American Idol" wannabe daughter is getting support from an unusual place ... her father's ex-girlfriend.

Jenny McCarthy ... who dated Jim for 5 years before splitting in 2010 ... was out in L.A. this weekend, when we asked if she will back Jane on "Idol."

Without hesitation, Jenny declared ... "YES."

24-year-old Jane got a golden ticket to Hollywood this season after busting out a version of "Something to Talk About."

As for Jenny and Jim ... they had a pretty weird breakup ... with Jenny telling Oprah the relationship had stopped being fun ... and Jim tweeting, "I am now free 2 be my whole self."

Jim Carrey held fast to the possibility of a new girlfriend last night -- clinging to some woman we've never seen before outside a Guns 'N Roses concert in L.A.

Whoever she is -- she's really crimping his style.

You never know where Jim Carrey is going to turn up next these days -- this weekend, it was on stage at a bar in New York City singing the classic Smashing Pumpkins song, "Bullet With Butterfly Wings."

Between this, announcing his love for Emma Stone, and spray painting his own building ... heck, it's better than sitting through "Mr. Popper's Penguins."

Jim Carrey is leading a 1-man rebellion against New York City officials who claim he has NO RIGHT to spray paint the front of his art studio ... and he's exacting revenge with the help of his imaginary friend.

Carrey tells TMZ ... the drama began when city officials painted over some "street art" he had spray painted on the outside wall of his West Village art studio.

Carrey says the street art featured an image of a character he created named "Baba" -- a "mischievous deity ... [who] exists in negative space."

So today, Carrey stuck it to The Man with a brand new piece of street art on the same wall -- featuring another image of Baba ... along with the message, "This graffiti reapplied pursuant to ... [Baba]"

Carrey tells TMZ ... he's not upset with the city worker who painted over his work ... saying, "This gentleman has a job to do" ... but he adds, "I'm just doing my job now as an artist and putting it back up."

He adds, "They can take it down again if they want to and it's OK with me ... I'll even pay for it."

Jim Carrey spent time with everyone who came near his table at Bar Pitti in NYC ... except the dude who was dining with him.  That guy might as well have gotten a table for 1.

Feeling a bit more rebellious than usual, Jim Carrey rocked a mohawk out to dinner at Dan Tana's in West Hollywood last night.



We're glad the 49-year-old hasn't lost his sense of humor.

The man's still got it -- Jim Carrey busted out some INSANE dance moves at a Dallas bar the night before the big game ... all while Cee-Lo sang his hit song "F**k You" ... and it's all caught on tape!!!



Jim and Cee-Lo weren't the only big names at the Casa De Don Julio Super Bowl event last Saturday either -- David Spade made a pretty hilarious cameo too.

Jim Carrey stepped out with his new lady friend, former "America's Top Model" contestant Anchal Joseph in NYC on Thursday.


The 24-year-old beauty appeared on the seventh season of the reality series back in 2006.

Jim, 49, split from longtime girlfriend Jenny McCarthy last year.
