The auction house behind the controversial Sharon Tate "engagement ring" tells TMZ ... it has written confirmation from Roman Polanski verifying the authenticity of the jewelry ... and claims it WILL NOT yank the item from the auction block.

TMZ broke the story ... Sharon's sister Debra insisted the ring wasn't Sharon's "official" engagement ring -- and also claimed it was NOT on her finger the night she was murdered by the Manson family.

But a rep for the auction house GottaHaveRockAndRoll.com tells us, "It was speculated that the ring was on Sharon Tate's finger at the time of death but never confirmed so we do not dispute Tate's sister Debra's claim."

The rep adds, "We do, however, have photographic proof of Tate wearing the ring (seen above) and written confirmation from Roman Polanski stating that this was, in fact, the engagement ring that he gifted to his then-fiancee, Sharon Tate."


"Gotta Have It! along with the consigner are 100% confident in the authenticity of the ring. There are no plans to pull the ring from the Gotta Have Rock and Roll Pop Culture auction as the consigner, who maintains ownership of the ring, is committed to its sale."

Currently, the ring is scheduled to hit the auction block on November 30.

Roman Polanski was just dragged into the case involving a 1968 Playboy Playmate who recently shot her husband in the back -- we're told, officials believe Polanski may have given her the gun ... 40 years ago.


Here's where it gets creepy -- sources close to the case tell TMZ, it all started back in 1969 ... the night before Charles Manson orchestrated the infamous murder of Sharon Tate ... Polanski's then wife.

We're told Playmate Angela Dorian (above left) -- currently in custody for the attempted murder of her husband in October -- was close friends with Tate ... and they even spent the evening together before the slaughter.

After Tate was killed -- sources tell us the famous director was so worried about Dorian, he gave her his handgun for protection .... a Walther PPK .380, just like James Bond.

Fast forward 41 years ... sources tell us investigators believe Dorian used the very same gun to shoot her husband after an argument turned violent. As we first reported, she faces up to life in prison if convicted.

The oft-troubled director made his first public appearance since being released from house arrest, posing for pics with his wife Emmanuelle Seigner at the Montreux Jazz Festival yesterday.

Seigner is 44 years old.

The Swiss government has denied a United States extradition request for Roman Polanski.

The Justice Ministry said Monday in a statement that national interests were taken into consideration in the decision, and that Polanski was now a free man

Roman pled guilty in 1978 to one count of unlawful sexual intercourse with a 13-year-old girl, but fled to France before he could be sentenced.

UPDATE: According to L.A. Superior Court spokesperson Allan Parachini, "The original Polanski case remains pending. The Los Angeles Superior Court arrest warrant from 1978 remains outstanding."

A woman has come forward claiming Roman Polanski abused her over 25 years ago -- when she was 16 years old ... 4 years after Polanski fled the U.S.



Charlotte Lewis -- who co-starred with Eddie Murphy in "The Golden Child" -- was front and center at a Gloria Allred news conference that ended a few minutes ago ... claiming she has now told authorities her story.

TMZ has learned Lewis and Allred met with L.A. County Deputy D.A. David Walgren late yesterday and made the allegations.  A spokesperson from the D.A.'s Office would not say if Lewis' claims will be used for the extradition or sentencing case involving Polanski.

The law of consent in France is 15, but Allred says it's irrelevant.

UPDATE: Polanski's legal team tells TMZ: "We don't have any information about statements made at a Gloria Allred press conference today, but we do know that our District Attorney continues to refuse to provide the Swiss government with accurate and complete information relevant to the extradition issue."

Legendary director Roman Polanski is once again being accused of "sexually predatory conduct" -- and the woman making the accusation is set to come forward today ... with a little help from Gloria Allred.



Allred and her mystery client are set to hold a press conference today in L.A. at 10:30 AM PST to explain the "legal significance of her allegations."

Polanski is currently under house arrest in Switzerland for that whole "skipping town before being sentenced for raping a 14-year-old back in 1977" thing.

Rich enough to buy his way out of the slammer, Roman Polanski was driven to his 19,000 sq. ft. Swiss Chalet today, where he'll be under house arrest thanks to a $4.5 million bail payment.

Roman Polanski is out of prison -- and is now trapped in the strict confines of his luxury, 19,000 square foot, three-story Swiss chalet.

The director -- who is fighting extradition to the U.S. for having sex with a 13-year-old girl back in 1977 -- was released after posting $4.5 million bail, clamping on an electronic monitoring device and agreeing to house arrest.

In Monopoly, you can fork over a couple of hundred bucks to get yourself out of jail. Switzerland is apparently just like Monopoly.

Roman Polanski's French lawyer, Herve Temime, says he will be filing a new bail proposal on Monday and it will be a "very, very significant" cash amount. Swiss authorities shot down a different offer on Friday, but reportedly it did not involve cold, hard cash.

Temime wouldn't say how much Roman would lay on the table. We're guessing two giant sacks with dollar signs on the side should do the trick.

Roman Polanski has been moved from jail to undergo medical treatment, his lawyer announced today.

Herve Temime wouldn't go into too much detail, telling Reuters, "All I know is that he has been taken from prison for medical attention. I don't know where he is or when he will be returned to prison."

Polanksi has been in a Swiss jail since being arrested three weeks ago to face extradition to the U.S.

The Swiss Justice Ministry has denied Roman Polanski's request to be released from prison pending a decision on extradition.

According to the Ministry, there's still a high risk that Polanski might go on the run if released from custody. Go figure.

Polanski's lawyers asked the Swiss judge to release him from custody ... on grounds the move by U.S. law enforcement to haul him back was illegal.
