Sofia Vergara is finally speaking out after her heroic moment in Vegas last week -- claiming the woman she rescued simply had too much to drink that night ... and that's why she collapsed.

TMZ broke the story ... Sofia was leaving Hyde nightclub at the Bellagio around 3AM New Year's Day, when she saw the unidentified woman fall unconscious ... and rushed to help her.

Sofia called in to Kidd Kraddick in the Morning yesterday, claiming the woman "was just a little drunk, you know. It was Vegas. It was New Year's."

Sofia says she ran over and called for her cousin -- a doctor -- to come help. Once Sofia and her cousin established the woman was breathing, they waited for paramedics to arrive.

Sofia Vergara began 2012 by rushing to the aid of a young woman who collapsed on the floor of a Las Vegas casino ... TMZ has learned.

The "Modern Family" star was leaving Hyde nightclub at the Bellagio around 3 AM on New Year's Day ... when Sofia saw a woman hit the deck.

Sources at the scene tell us ... Sofia and a girlfriend rushed over to the woman to help. We're told Sofia's friend had medical training and was seen checking the woman's pulse.

Both Sofia and her friend tried to keep the woman calm ... and waited by her side until security personnel and paramedics arrived to the scene. We're told the woman was eventually transported to a nearby hospital.

A rep for Sofia had no comment on the situation ... but we do ... BAD. ASS.

Sofia Vergara may have been on vacation this weekend in Mexico ... but her bikini top was stuck working overtime.

Sofia Vergara's boyfriend claims the brutal car crash that nearly killed him -- and left him with several gruesome injuries -- only happened because the City of L.A. failed to properly maintain the road ... this according to a new lawsuit obtained by TMZ.



Nick Loeb wants more than $50,000 from the city -- claiming he was driving on a steep and winding road in Bel Air on August 23, 2010 ... when his car tumbled off a steep embankment.

Loeb suffered a severely broken leg, a fractured pelvis and a deep gash across his chest.

In the lawsuit, filed in L.A. County Superior Court, Loeb claims the road he was driving on was a "concealed trap" -- because there were no signs warning of blind turns and the city never installed the proper safety precautions that would help prevent a vehicle from falling off an embankment -- aka, there was no guard rail.

Loeb claims the city has a legal obligation to keep the roads safe -- and he insists they failed in their duty.
