Randy Travis threatened to shoot and kill the troopers who arrested him for drunk driving last night ... this according to the Grayson County Sheriff's Office.

The GCSO tells us ... officers received a call at 11:18 PM from a person who stated there was a man lying in the roadway.  When cops arrived to the scene, they noticed Travis' 1998 Pontiac Trans Am had driven off the road and slammed into several barricades in a construction zone.

Travis was initially arrested for DWI -- but once he was inside the cop car, officials say the singer threatened to "shoot and kill the Troopers working the case."

As we previously reported, Travis was NAKED ... and rode bareback while he was being transported to the station.

When he arrived to the jail, cops gave Travis a shirt to wear for his mug shot ... and a paper suit to cover his man parts.

Travis is sporting a black eye and cuts in his mug shot -- injuries we're told he suffered when he crashed his car into the construction zone. 

Travis was charged with DWI and retaliation for making the threats. Travis is currently in custody.


8:45 AM PT -- Randy has been released from custody after posting $21,500 bail.

7:54 AM PT -- Sources tell TMZ ... Travis was BUCK NAKED when cops arrived to the crash scene. It's unclear why Travis was not wearing clothes.

We're also told the country singer refused to take a breathalyzer, so a blood draw was taken to determine his blood alcohol level.

We've also learned ... before the DWI arrest, someone called cops to complain that a naked Travis walked into a convenient store and tried to buy cigarettes.

6:24 AM PT -- Law enforcement sources tell us ... Travis was charged with "retaliation" because he verbally threatened a cop during the bust.


Country singer Randy Travis was arrested last night in Texas on suspicion of DWI after crashing his car, TMZ has learned.

Law enforcement sources tell TMZ, Randy was arrested around 11:59PM with minor cuts and bruises. He was also booked on a "retaliation and obstruction" charge ... a felony.

Randy's car was the only vehicle involved in the crash.

Other details surrounding Randy's arrest are unclear. Randy is still in custody.

It's the singer's 2nd arrest this year -- back in February, Randy was busted for public intoxication for allegedly boozing in front of a Baptist church. According to the police report, Randy said he had just gotten into a fight with his girlfriend.

Randy Travis' ex-wife insists she didn't torpedo the country legend's career, despite Randy's accusations in a recent lawsuit. She claims he did that all on his own.

As TMZ first reported, Travis filed a countersuit last month against Elizabeth Travis -- his ex-wife and manager of 30 years -- claiming she was badmouthing him following their personal and professional split. Elizabeth had originally sued him for breach of contract. 

Now in court papers filed this week in Tennessee, Elizabeth denies both saying anything bad about Randy and trying to torpedo his career. She also claims it was his "intentional interfering" with her work that led to "undermining the effectiveness of his career in the entertainment industry."

Elizabeth wants his suit tossed out and a judge to award her damages based on lost earnings. 

The judge has yet to rule.

Country legend Randy Travis says his ex-wife is a scam-artist who came up with a diabolical plot to ruin his career and cheat him out of his hard-earned cash ... this according to new legal docs.

The singer has filed a lawsuit against Elizabeth Travis -- his ex-wife and manager of 30 years -- claiming she breached her contract by running around town blabbing personal details about him in order to torpedo his career. Randy wasn't specific about the "personal details," but it sounds pretty bad.

And that's just the beginning ...Travis claims Elizabeth tried to con even more money out of him with inflated travel reimbursement requests.

The new suit comes on the heels of Elizabeth filing her own lawsuit ... claiming it was Randy who breached their contract when he canned her in 2011. She wants her full management fee.

Randy is asking the judge to block his ex from getting a cut from his future gigs.

A judge has yet to rule.

Randy Travis was downright DUMBFOUNDED when Texas police told the singer he was being arrested for public intoxication earlier this month ... telling cops, "Really? Are you kidding me?"

Dashcam footage, obtained by KCENTV.com​, shows the country star talking slowly and slurring to police as he's questioned about why he was sitting in a parked car near a Baptist church in the middle of the night on Feb. 6.

In the footage, Travis is asked if he had been boozing ... to which he replies, "Yes, sir, I have. But I am not driving, as you can see." As TMZ previously reported, cops say Travis reeked of booze.

The officer asked Travis for ID, but the singer didn't have his driver's license on him at the time.

The officer continued, "Here's what's going to happen tonight ... You're going to go to jail for public intoxication."

Travis: "Really? Are you kidding me?"

Cop: "Maybe once we get to the jail, we can figure out who ... get some more information on you, who you are."

Travis: "Are you kidding me?"

The cop wasn't kidding ...

As TMZ previously reported, Travis was hauled to jail at around 1:30 AM ... and was booked, cited and released a short time later.

Randy Travis has an explanation for why he was stumbling drunk in front of a church -- he had just gotten in a fight with his girlfriend.

According to the police report, obtained by TMZ, cops observed Randy sitting in a black car with no lights on just after midnight Monday.  When they approached the vehicle, they couldn't help but notice Randy reeked of booze.

The arresting officer says Randy tried to explain the fight with his girlfriend ... but "Mr. Travis' speech was slurred and I was beginning to have a hard time understanding what he was saying."

Randy made an awkward stumbling exit from the vehicle -- as most drunk people do, and that's when the officer hooked him up and placed him under arrest for public intoxication.

Cops say they poured out the rest of the booze -- and towed Randy's car from the scene.

Travis was cited ... and released a short time later.


11:57 AM PST -- Travis has just released a statement ... saying, "I apologize for what resulted following an evening of celebrating the Super Bowl."

He adds, "I'm committed to being responsible and accountable, and apologize for my actions."

Country singer Randy Travis was arrested in Sanger, Texas this morning for public intoxication ... after cops say he was boozing in front of a Baptist church.

According to the Sanger Police Department, someone called the cops to report a suspicious vehicle near the church ... and when officers arrived to the scene, they discovered the 52-year-old singer with an open bottle of wine.  

The "Forever and Ever, Amen" singer was hauled to a nearby jail around 1:30 AM -- he was booked, cited and released a short time later.
