Morgan Goes to Jail for "30 Days"

30 DaysFor the second season finale of the FX show "30 Days" (tonight at 10PM), Morgan Spurlock played the role of "test subject" by spending 30 days in jail. Morgan's mission wasn't to find out whether or not jail was horrible (Um, yeah. Jail sucks), but whether or not jail actually helped anyone.

Morgan was escorted to prison in handcuffs and treated just like any other prisoner. Once inside, he learned his fellow cellmates had each been in jail three times and happened to be cousins. Morgan was assigned to work in the prison cafeteria -- a 15-hour shift without pay. The average price per tray of food is $0.67.

As Morgan's 30 days went on, the focus became less on Morgan and his experience (his 72-hour stint in solitary was particularly harrowing) but more on his fellow inmates. Does the prison system really do all it can to rehabilitate its inmates? Or is it just a system that keeps chugging along, afraid of change?

When Morgan is finally freed from prison, you're less concerned about Morgan's well-being, and more curious to see how his new friends will turn out. The answer is sadly predictable.

"30 Days" Sneak Peek: Pro Choice/Pro-Life

30 DaysNormally we here at TMZ stick to reality shows about D-list celebs and hotel heiresses. But since the lovely people at FX sent over this season of "30 Days," we have to admit we're a bit hooked.

This week's episode focuses on the issue of abortion. Jennifer, a staunchly pro-choice feminist, travels across the country to live at His Nesting Place, a pro-life maternity home and crisis pregnancy center. His Nesting Place is run by Pastor Al and his wife Judy and is home to 12 pregnant women who were either homeless or had nowhere else to turn for help. The home is a Christian ministry and is against abortion under any circumstances.

Jennifer's 30 days went as to be expected -- she bonded with the mothers and the children in the home, but had a harder time finding common ground with various pro-life supporters. Both Jennifer and Pastor Al admitted that neither of them would ever change their opinions, but the two bonded nonetheless. While you can certainly file these two under the category of "agree to disagree," it would be dismissive to say that they didn't learn anything from each other.

"30 Days" airs Wednesday night at 10PM on FX.

"30 Days" Goes New Age

In tonight's episode of the FX series "30 Days," a stressed-out workaholic goes the New Age route to try to mellow out and control his rage.

Tom, a salesman from New Jersey, gets hooked up with a life coach, attends a spring equinox ritual, a tribal dancing class, receives acupuncture (see the preview on the right) and a tantric intimacy workshop with his girlfriend, Misti. The 30 days of transformation all leads up to Tom's attempt at fire-walking over hot coals.

Watching Tom evolve over the month is interesting -- his attitude at the first ritual is skeptical, to say the least. But watching his girlfriend Misti come around is far more telling. After day one, Misti didn't even want a tarot card in her house. After day 16, Misti was worried about evil spirits and was nervous about her place in Tom's "new" life.

But as the positive affects of Tom's transformation became more and more obvious, Misti came around -- she met Tom's life coach and even took place in a ritual to bless her and Tom's new home.

To see the effects of the 30 days on Tom was one thing, but to see that effect through the woman who loves him was far more engrossing.

Check out Tom's "30 Days" journey on FX tonight at 10PM.
