TMZ has learned actor Brad Renfro is dead.
The 25-year-old actor was found dead at his Los Angeles home this morning. The cause of death has not been determined, however, Renfro had a history of drug abuse.
Sources tell us Renfro, who had starring roles in "The Client" and "Apt Pupil" had been working valiantly to stay clean, especially since this summer. Renfro had been convicted of several drug offenses, including attempted heroin possession.
Renfro had been filming a movie with Winona Ryder and Billy Bob Thornton. The movie, "The Informers," just wrapped.
Renfro has had a rough time personally since moving from Tennessee to Los Angeles. His parents split, and we're told he did not have real guidance from adults as he tried navigating the treacherous movie industry.

How did Madonna get the nickname "Madge"? --Melissa
Melissa, lots of people have to be wondering the same thing. "Madge" is a name the UK press gave to Madonna, a shortened combo version of "Her Majesty" and "Madonna." No one in her professional or personal life refers to her by that name ... we're guessing it didn't stick, or she just doesn't care for it!

Brad Renfro and Leif Garrett each took center stage in separate Los Angeles courtrooms today. They each pled not guilty to heroin related charges.
The 23-year-old Renfro, who starred in 'The Client' when he was just 12, was busted last December in a police sweep on skid row and charged with attempting to buy heroin.
Renfro's lawyer, Richard Kaplan, said his client is in a full time drug rehab program. Kaplan is hoping the judge will find drug diversion more appropriate than jail if Renfro is convicted.

Actor Brad Renfro had his arraignment on a drug charge postponed Friday because he has entered a full-time drug rehabilitation program, his lawyer said.
Renfro's attorney, Richard Kaplan, said outside court that his client is "doing fine" in the program and will return to court Jan. 18 for his arraignment. He remains free after posting $10,000 bail.
Renfro, 23, was arrested Dec. 22 during a drug bust near Skid Row and was charged with a felony count of attempting to possess heroin.
The actor has appeared in "Ghost World," "Bully" and "The Jacket." He was discovered as a child and cast in 1994's "The Client." Kaplan's request for a delay of arraignment was not opposed by Deputy District Attorney Thomas McGowan. Superior Court Commissioner James Bianco granted it after a conference with attorneys.
Renfro has had a series of run-ins with the law. He was charged in 1998 with cocaine and marijuana possession, but avoided jail time in a plea deal. He also has been charged for allegedly trying to steal a yacht in Florida in August 2000 and for underage drinking.

By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS
Actor Brad Renfro was arrested Thursday afternoon in a sting operation after he allegedly tried to buy heroin near the Skid Row area downtown, officials said.
Renfro, 23, was booked for investigation of felony attempting to possess heroin, said Detective Ron Hodges of the Los Angeles Police Department.
"He was intending to buy real heroin from an undercover officer," Hodges said.
Renfro, whose credits include "Ghost World," "Bully," "The Jacket" and "The Client," was caught during a random sting operation that resulted in the arrests of 14 other suspects, Hodges said.
His lawyer did not immediately return a call for comment placed after business hours Thursday.
Renfro, a native of Knoxville, Tenn., was charged in 1998 with possession of cocaine and marijuana, but avoided jail time in a plea deal.
He was placed on probation in January 2001 and ordered to pay $4,000 for repairs to a 45-foot yacht he and a friend tried to steal in Florida in August 2000. He was subsequently ordered into an alcohol rehabilitation program in March 2002 for violating his probation in the yacht case.
He was also arrested in May 2001 and charged with underage drinking, which violated terms of his probation.
Renfro was discovered as a fifth-grader and cast with Susan Sarandon and Tommy Lee Jones in 1994's "The Client," portraying a young witness to a crime who is marked for death.
He was arrested Thursday near downtown's Skid Row area, where blatant drug dealing occurs amid the largest concentration of homeless people in the country.
