Brett Favre used to be the king of Green Bay -- before he signed with the Packers' arch rivals -- now the legendary quarterback is using extra security just to get around the bitter town he left.
TMZ has learned the Minnesota Vikings beefed up their security for Favre's super-hyped up return to Lambeau Field yesterday -- even providing a special team of private security officers "specifically assigned" to protect Brett.
We spoke with a Vikings spokesperson who told us, "I can confirm that we did have extra security in place throughout the trip, including at the hotel Saturday night and at the stadium yesterday.
Taking the necessary precautions to protect our players on any road trip is always a priority of the team, and this situation was no exception."
Translation: A lot of people don't like Brett in Green Bay -- the city he played in for 16 years.
The Vikes protected Favre on the field too -- Brett threw 4 TDs as the Vikes crushed the Pack 38-26.

Team officials have confirmed Brett Favre will be playing for the Minnesota Vikings.
The deal is reportedly worth between $10-12 million.
Favre, 39, has scheduled a presser for 6pm EST.
Story not developing ... just getting old...

Get out the BENGAY ... twice-retired NFL quarterback Brett Favre is reportedly about to be a Minnesota Viking.
Even though he's old enough to be an actual Viking, sources tell ESPN Favre will re-return to the gridiron once a physical is conducted by the Vikes.
Let the "Will he retire at the end of the season" talks begin again ... again.

Nothing says Hall-of-Fame career like a yard sale! Hours after Brett Favre announced his retirement (again) from football, the NY Jets announced a 50% sale on all Favre gear.
Appropriate, since the Jets were barely 50% better with Brett playing QB.

It looks like Green Bay Packers New York Jets QB Brett Favre is selling out -- of his new jersey!
Sources tell TMZ that the QB has continued his record breaking ways by selling 3200 jerseys ... and counting! That sets a single day sales record and single day, single player jersey sales record.
Just as amazing -- it hasn't been 24 hours since the official announcement of the trade.
Favre's Green Bay jersey is the top selling jersey of all time.

Desperate to clean up the never ending debacle over Brett Favre's never ending career, the Green Bay Packers found a guy who knows all about covering his boss' ass -- Dubya's former White House spokesman, Ari Fleischer!
According to FOX Sports, the Packers signed Ari Fleischer to a one-month contract as a "consultant."
Why the team feels they need to pay a guy to tell them to let Brett Favre do whatever the hell he wants is unclear.
