Brittany Murphy is the girl who cried gunshot.
TMZ has learned cops received a frantic 911 call around 2:30 this morning from neighbors complaining about a screaming Brittany Murphy, who was wailing about shots fired outside her Hollywood pad.
When LAPD arrived on the scene, they saw the panicked actress on her balcony, yelling about the alleged gun fire.
No weapon, bullet or body was found -- and after an investigation, the noise was discovered to be coming from a generator, which had been acting up due to the funky L.A. weather last night.
For the cops' sake, let's hope this is the kinda thing that only happens sporadically.

Brittany Murphy loves being married -- or at least that's what she's telling everyone. Who's she trying to convince?
TMZ caught up with the actress at the Sundance Film Festival, as she gushed about just celebrating her 10-month wedding anniversary to screenwriter Simon Monjack. In Hollywood, after 10 months one celebrates an enduring marriage.
Months are equivalent to years in L.A. Just ask Pamela Anderson!

Rabid chef Gordon Ramsay and his family ate at Osteria Mozza in L.A. last night, and the mad white hatter didn't even diss their dishes! Hells kitchen has frozen over!
Also in L.A: Legendary actors Al Pacino and Jon Voight grabbed a bite at Ago's, Babyface checked out some plastic roadside bling, and Brittany Murphy signed backseat autographs.
In NYC: Our cameras spotted hotties Christina Ricci, Ali Larter, and Adriana Lima.

Lindsay Lohan's mom insists she never told Star Magazine that her nickname is "The White Oprah," a moniker born of her willingness to listen to her friends' problems. And Oprah's dad has denied reports he is writing a tell-all book. But not everyone this week got off so lucky.
Anne Heche: She does girl-on-girl, she does guy-on-girl. Heck, she can even talk dirty in an alien language if that's your thing. But apparently, none of this was enough to satisfy 34-year-old hubby Coleman "Coley" Laffoon, who Anne claimed has spent a great deal of their marriage surfing the Internet for porn. It's all part of Hollywood's latest nasty divorce battle, with custody of five-year-old son Homer hanging in the balance. The title of Heche's 2001 autobiography is "Call Me Crazy," and that's just what Laffoon has been doing, criticizing her parenting skills in his court filings. Meanwhile, Heche's Christian mom once claimed to have cured her daughter's lesbianism through prayer -- so maybe she can dial up the Big Guy again to ensure Laffoon gets nowhere near the $45,000 a month he is asking from the "Men in Trees" wackadoodle.

Walking in a pair of four-inch heels is hard enough, but Brittany Murphy takes it a step further -- by wearing them to ballet class!
Looking like a forlorn flamingo in a black sweater, pink leggings and dance shorts, Brittany was spotted taking a cigarette and Blackberry break outside a dance studio in Westwood. Murphy's preparing for her next film role in "The White Hotel," a drama about Sigmund Freud.
The Louis Vuitton accessories make this psycho dance outfit worthy of analysis.

What is the one dress that Hollywood's leading lady can't seem to live without these days? A sexy $325 cinch sack dress by Delia that comes in any color an A-list starlet desires.
Angelina Jolie has one in nude, Jessica Simpson owns the turquoise version, Brittany Murphy's is coral, Brandy's is blue and both Mariah Carey and Carmen Electra picked up not one but two in both coral and navy blue.

Brittany Murphy's character didn't rap or sing in 8 Mile, but the actress apparently has some real-life skillz behind the mic.
By now you've probably heard Paul Oakenfold's club single "Faster Kill Pussycat" - well, the featured female voice is Brittany. The single appears on Oakenfold's new record, 'A Lively Mind,' which dropped last week.
Brittany told Cosmo that it's not her first recording: "I've worked on a lot of other people's albums anonymously - a lot of rap, hip-hop and R&B stuff - and I hear myself on the radio all the time," she told the magazine for its cover story. "I've just always kept it a secret and never taken credit because I wanted to learn how to work behind the microphone in a recording studio, and some of the singers don't even know it was me recording on their albums."
The fact that someone can anonymously sing on your record kind of shows you how much control some of these artists have over their recordings. But I must say that I do respect Brittany's toiling in anonymity a bit without trading in on her name right away to sell some records. Some other young actresses might want to follow that same route, while others may simply want to stick to acting altogether.
Can anyone spot Brittany's voice on other tracks out there?

World-renowned DJ Paul Oakenfold unveiled details about his new CD, 'A Lively Mind,' set for release June 6. Oakenfold, who produced the CD and wrote the songs, told TMZ about collaborations with hip hop heavyweights Pharrell and Grandmaster Flash.
Actress Brittany Murphy is making her grand entrance into the music industry with a bang, collaborating with Oakenfold on a track titled, 'Faster Kill Pussycat.' Oakenfold was introduced to Murphy through a mutual friend, and she blew him away with her vocal talent.
Oakenfold talked to TMZ about his new CD and Brittany Murphy.
