TMZ has learned the woman accused of stalking Tyler Perry -- and emailing him about the devil -- once held a pretty serious job ... working for the United States government.
Dawne Wilson, who is currently locked up in Atlanta on an aggravated stalking charge, recently worked for the General Services Administration -- an agency which helps manage and support the basic functioning of other federal agencies.
Before Dawne was hired, she had to go through an extensive background check -- which she obviously passed. No word if a psych test was included in the screening.
TMZ spoke with one of Dawne's former co-workers from their Atlanta office, who told us, "The whole thing was a shock ... it seemed out of character ... she never seemed unbalanced."
Wilson is still in custody. If convicted, she could face up to 10 years in state prison.

TMZ has obtained the restraining order against the woman accused of stalking Tyler Perry -- and the document is nothing short of shocking .... the alleged stalker saying Tyler is a candidate for murder.
As we first reported, Dawne Wilson was arrested for aggravated stalking Wednesday outside Perry's production studios in Atlanta ... a place where she's been an unwelcome visitor many times before.
The restraining order, obtained by TMZ, claims in March, 2008, Dawne Wilson began contacting Perry by computer "in a menacing manner," causing Perry to fear "apprehension of immediately receiving a violent injury."
According to the docs, in April, 2008, Wilson sent another e-mail saying "You need to check your heart condition because it is filled with murder....your love has been but costly and deadly....Murder I say is the verdict."
Wilson rambled on, "Why do you insist on assisting the devil?"
Wilson was taken into custody after showing up at Perry's recording studio last Wednesday, in violation of the restraining order.
