Briefcase Model in Exhibition of Social Darwinism

When Darwin introduced the term, "survival of the fittest," he probably wasn't talking about this chick. She's definitely "fit," but still...

Thinking is hard sometimes -- and after racking her brain last night "Deal or No Deal" model Katie Cleary told us the game show commission was started after "that movie 'Quiz Show.'"

Here we always thought the 1958 events that inspired the flick might have kicked off a commission, but whatever -- she's pretty.

Not All Briefcase Models Are Created Stupid

They may look like braindead bimbos, but at least one of the "Deal or No Deal" girls went to college.
Marisa Petroro: Click to watch
#18, aka Marisa Petroro, tells us she went to Rutgers and even has a degree in Marketing. Turning to "modeling" may seem dumb -- but holding a briefcase for a couple hours a day sure beats cubicle work at half the pay.

Court to Dummies: You Text, You Pay!

The Georgia supreme court threw out a lawsuit today, which was filed by a crazy couple who alleged that NBC's "Deal or No Deal" violated state anti-gambling laws, when it invited viewers to take part in a game via text message.

The game asks viewers at home to guess which of six on-screen gold briefcases is the lucky case. According to the AP, the court ruled unanimously against Michael and Michele Hardin, who wanted NBC to repay them for being dumb enough to send a bunch of 99-cent text messages for the show's "Lucky Case Game."

NBC attorneys say the game was a promotional tool and not a lottery. Common sense 101-- not everyone passes!

The Case of the "Deal or No Deal" Case

Four Georgia women are pissed that they had to pay 99 cents to play that "Deal or No Deal" Lucky Case Game -- and now they're charging in a federal suit against NBC that it's just a form of illegal gambling. Wanna bet they didn't win?
Deal or No Deal
In the suit, which was filed yesterday, the women allege that the promotion -- in which viewers text numbers to pick what they think will be the winning briefcase -- constitutes illegal gambling, and is actually a lottery under California, Massachusetts, and New York state laws, because they had to pay a 99 cent "premium" fee to play. There's no charge to play via Internet. Prizes in the game range from $10,000 to $100,000.

The plaintiffs, who are seeking unspecified damages and are seeking class-action status, also names production company Endemol USA in the suit. Press reports suggest that Howie Mandel wasn't touched by the suit.

Woman Trips Out During "Deal or No Deal," Sues

Deal or No DealIf you thought watching an episode of "Deal or No Deal" was painful, try being in the audience!

A woman is suing the production company behind the hit game show, after she tripped and fell down a flight of steps during a taping in February, 2006.

According to the lawsuit, obtained by TMZ, Judy Ann Myers claims that during a commercial break, the show's stage manager instructed her to "hurry up and come down" the stairs to perform in an audience dance contest. As Myers hurried to the stage, she claims to have completely wiped out, suffering "great and considerable personal injuries" all over her body. In the suit, Myers blames her bad trip on bad lighting -- and that there were no hand rails on the stairs.

Now Myers is asking a judge for more than $25,000 to heal her wounds. Better call the banker, Howie!

Calls to reps for "Deal or No Deal" were not immediately returned.

Saget and Osmond Chase the Howie Dream

What in the name of 1990 is going on? First, Howie Mandel forced his way back into the public's consciousness with the single-minded hit, "Deal or No Deal." But now things are getting out of hand - both Bob Saget and Donny Osmond are about to hit primetime with game shows of their own.

Saget returns this week as host of "1 vs 100," a new show from the producers of "Deal or No Deal." Apparently running the Tanner household qualifies Saget to officiate the battle between one contestant and a "mob" of 100 people in an attempt to win $1 million.

In this clip from the show's premiere, Saget meets the first contestant and explains how the game is played.

Meanwhile, Donny Osmond, it was announced today, will host a new pilot for the return of "Name That Tune." Osmond, sans Marie and the Technicolor Dream Coat, will mediate this updated version of the classic game show as people from various age groups will compete, allowing the show to feature music from several different genres and eras.

The pilot for the show will tape in December and a decision about the show's future will come after that.

The two raised eyebrows a few weeks ago after reports the two got hot and heavy at Pure nightclub in Vegas.

Clooney and his gal pal have been dating for a few weeks now, spending time both on and off the set of "Ocean's Thirteen." Nancy has a small role as a casino waitress in next year's crook flick.

"Deal or No Deal" -- The Music Video

Click to return to TMZ.comOK, so "Deal or No Deal" premieres tonight on NBC. Now, we could show you a clip of Howie Mandel talking on the phone with the banker or some contestant jumping up and down -- OR we could show you a music video featuring the girls of "Deal or No Deal."

We chose the latter. You're welcome.

Anyway, the show is breaking out the big guns for it's second season premiere. Beginning today, the top prize in the first game will be $1 million and will escalate by an additional $1 million as each game progresses throughout the week, culminating with a record $6 million. Viewers of the show can also cash in just by watching and playing the "Play at Home Lucky Case Game" -- a total of $1 million will be given away on the four telecasts during premiere week.

The series will air every day this week (except Wednesday) during premiere week before settling into its regular times slots -- Mondays at 8 and Thursdays at 9 -- next week.

'Deal' Making Babes

Deal or No Deal: Click to watchMeet Claudia, Leyla, Tameka and Kasie or #1, #13, #21 and #16 as they're more well known on the hit show "Deal or No Deal."

The four sexy models, who normally say very little on the game show, had a lot to say about their growing popularity during a fall fashions photo shoot for In Touch magazine.

"People come up to me all the time like 'are you lucky Leyla #13 or unlucky 13, whichever way you look at it," says Leyla, one of the show's resident hotties, "it's really exciting, people actually noticing us and recognizing us."

Though they may just hold numbered briefcases that may or may not contain anywhere from $.01-$6,000,000, the women are definitely gaining notoriety for the somewhat simple job.

"I'm a big time gambler, I go to vegas a lot, I'm at the tables and they're like '#1 Claudia, deal or no deal? It seems like no matter what people find a way to incorporate the phrase ... it's following me everywhere."

The new season starts Monday.

"Deal or No Deal" Catches McPheever

Katharine McPheeFashion designer Dina Bar-El has created outfits for "Desperate Housewives" and "The O.C.," but after having her dresses appear on a little show called "American Idol," Bar-El's phone has been ringing off the hook.

Bar-El designed all of the gorgeous gowns worn by "Idol" runner-up Katharine McPhee on the finale.

NBC loved Bar-El's outfits so much that they have asked her to dress all the suitcase-holding models on the upcoming season of  "Deal or No Deal."

Bar-El told TMZ that the 32 lovely ladies will all sport the same black gown McPhee wore on "Idol" pictured here.

Another show jumping on the Bar-El bandwagon is FOX's "So You Think You Can Dance."  Dina will create outfits for the show's finalists and with the Emmys coming up in September, she expects to be dressing some of TV's finest.

Dina Bar-El's busy schedule is further proof that Taylor Hicks wasn't the only winner to emerge from this season's "American Idol."
