One day she's a nobody, the next day she's an "American Idol," and then all of the sudden she's starring in "Dreamgirls" ... no, not Jennifer Hudson ... Syesha Mercado.
Sources say the season seven "Idol" contestant has been cast in the upcoming international tour of "Dreamgirls" the play -- landing the role of Deena Jones, who was played by Beyonce in the movie.
Calls to Syesha's rep have not been returned.

Smokey Robinson took a swipe at Beyonce, Jamie Foxx and Eddie Murphy over what he perceives are inaccuracies in the hit movie "Dreamgirls."
On today's NPR "Morning Edition," Robinson said he is "very upset" over the "false information" in the film. Talking about the character modeled after Motown founder Berry Gordy, Robinson said, "Nobody was paying us. So he (Gordy) borrowed $800 from his family's fund and started Motown so that we could be paid. And for him to be maligned and made out like this villainous character is very, very, very offensive to me."
Robinson took issue with the stars of the film, saying that they belittled their history: "Motown is Beyonce's heritage. Motown is Jamie Foxx's heritage. Motown is Eddie Murphy's heritage. You know what I mean? They're black people. They're young black people. America should be proud of Motown because Motown made a statement all over the world that America could be proud of."

After a week during which both Cameron Diaz and Drew Barrymore saw their longstanding relationships officially come to an end, fellow angel Lucy Liu might not want to check her text messages for a while. And then there's the Zone, where we find that bad luck generally comes in fives.
Barbara Walters: In her recent two-part TV special "30 Mistakes in 30 Years," Walters expressed real regret at turning down a dinner date invitation from interview subject Clint Eastwood, back in his "Dirty Harry" days. But now, that probably pales in comparison to how she must feel about getting so awkwardly caught in the middle of the five shots -- or is it six? -- exchanged between The Donald and The Rosie. The latter apparently laid into Walters on Monday for not phoning her over the holidays, and for choosing to temper her public comments about Trump. Meanwhile, the beauty pageant gatekeeper is insisting that Babs is not telling the truth. Over the years, Walters has tap danced around heads of state, weepy celebrities and a gaggle of intriguing people. But her handling of this fracas has none of that finesse, and to add insult to injury, Oprah has now eclipsed her with a celeb-interviewing-celeb Oscar special.

The Academy of Motion Pictures confirmed that the song "Listen," which has been heralded as the unofficial theme of the critically acclaimed "Dreamgirls," will be submitted to Academy members for Oscar consideration without Beyonce's name attached as a writer.
Original Broadway scorer Henry Krieger, as well as songwriters Anne Preven, Scott Cutler and Beyonce are credited on the soundtrack as the writers of the song and were submitted as such to the Academy.
As it states in the Academy's guidelines, it is customary for up to two people to be credited as writers of any given song, but under special circumstances, if it is found that the there were more than two equal contributors, an exception could be made. The Academy made the exception for Preven and Cutler, but not for our girl B.
No word as to why Beyonce didn't make the cut.
Nominations will be announced on the January 23.

For a guy who says he hates cameras, Tyrese sure seems to find the spotlight a lot.
TMZ cameras were at the Video Game Awards in Hollywood this weekend when we ran into Tyrese, who showed us a lotta love. Last time we were face to face with this hotshot, he shouted at our cameras, "Stop f***in' filming me, man." This time he made sure to get in our good graces.
Also at the event were stunning Rachael Leigh Cook, funny guy Seth Green, and The Man of Steel -- Brandon Routh.
Jessica Biel and Wilmer Valderrama showed up looking as sleek as ever for the Breakthrough Awards. Joining them were "Dreamgirls" star Jennifer Hudson, Justin Long (you know, the Mac commercial guy), and Jared Leto.
Wrapping this edition of Star Catcher: 50 Cent and Samuel L. Jackson gave photogs just enough time to snap some quick shots.
For this and more on your favorite celebs, check out today's Star Catcher.

Beyonce Knowles set out to clear up rumors of jealousy over the attention her "Dreamgirls" co-star Jennifer Hudson has been receiving. Her plan may have backfired.
During a recent interview, a humble Beyoncé said she "knew that the character that I played wasn't the star ... I'm already a star. I already have nine Grammys. Everyone knows I can sing."
Beyoncé definitely belts out some beautiful melodies, but when she said, "I wish I could have gained 20 pounds and played Effie," we hear the flip side of her tune. Although most of Beyoncé's comments seemed a little backhanded, she did go on to give props to Hudson by saying, "She did incredible."
This interview, meant to defuse the rumored feud, could rekindle the diva dis.

Beyoncé Knowles took some time off after finally wrapping her upcoming movie "Dreamgirls" and spent an afternoon with her entourage at the Taronga Zoo in Sydney yesterday.
The singer-actress-designer -- and sometimes-target of animal rights organization PETA -- spent the day visiting all the fuzzy and furry creatures residing at the Zoo, presumably not searching for inspiration for her next clothing line.
The former Destiny's Child diva took all sorts of heat for the use of animal fur in her fashion line House of Dereon after she was ambushed by an angry PETA member at a charity dinner earlier this year, as TMZ first reported.

Will Shania Twain ever have a tour in South Dakota?
While anything's possible Andrea, it's not likely that Shania Twain will be stopping in South Dakota any time soon. Sources close to the country crooner tell TMZ that she has no tours currently planned and that she is on holiday for an indefinite amount of time.
In 2004 she released her "Greatest Hits" album, which peaked at number two on the the Billboard 200. And in 2005 she unveiled "Beginnings," an album which fans have warmly taken in.

Is it true that Channing Tatum is dating Jenna Dewan?
Christy, all signs are pointing to these two on-screen love birds being an item. Channing Tatum and Jenna Dewan have been seen numerous times with one another since working together in the movie "Step Up." This isn't the first time Tatum has been linked with a fellow female worker. "She's the Man" co-star Amanda Bynes is the most recent before Jenna. But don't count Jenna out. The professional dancer, who has recently parted ways with Shane West ("A Walk to Remember"), has also been linked with Justin Timberlake in the past. Typical Hollywood triangles!
In any event, this duo makes Channing and Jenna two of the luckiest (and slightly unknown) Hollywood actors yet. And for more, check out some of their photos together.

Beyoncé Knowles is speaking to TMZ about the new DreamWorks and Paramount film version of 'Dreamgirls,' directed by 'Kinsey's' Bill Condon. Knowles plays a character loosely based on Diana Ross.
Former 'American Idol' season three contestant Jennifer Hudson (who many 'Idol' fans felt was unfairly booted way too early) has landed the dream role of "Effie," originated on Broadway by Jennifer Holliday.
The film also stars Oscar winner Jamie Foxx, Eddie Murphy, Danny Glover, Mos Def, Sharon Leal, and Tony winner Anika Noni Rose.
'Dreamgirls' will open in December 2006.
