Boring tuxedos and simple dresses were abound at the Emmy Awards tonight -- and then there was soap star Victoria Rowell ...

So let us get this straight -- one of the best writers in TV got an Emmy from someone who is on a show so badly written ... no one wants to admit it's written. We're just sayin' ...

It's only a matter of time until Katherine Heigl pisses off every writer in Hollywood.
She's already knocked down "Knocked Up" and yesterday Heigl trashed the writing staff at "Grey's Anatomy", too. Sure, the show did kinda blow this season, but she's still gotta work with them. Awkward.

TV's annual festival of self-congratulation passed into history last night for the 58th time, and history will note that Fox's "24" finally got the recognition it deserved, that Conan O'Brien ought to be given the hosting gig for life, and that HBO just can't lose the movie/miniseries category.
What's more, backstage, Tina Fey actually did go "arse-over-tits," in Helen Mirren's charming phraseology, "The Office"'s Rainn Wilson just had to kiss his castmates, and Martin and Charlie Sheen shared a nice filial cigarette.

The 2006 Emmy Awards came and went this evening in Hollywood, and as usual the celebrities on hand did their very best to bring the maximum glamour to the occasion. Whether it was the young (Katherine Heigl), the slightly less young (the original Charlie's Angels), the pregnant (Heidi Klum), or the manly (Patrick Dempsey), TMZ has an early look at the sweetest eye candy from the night's festivities.
We'll have more on the Emmys tomorrow, but for now, have a gander at TMZ's seven smokingest celebs.

In its never-ending quest to provide you with the moments that everyone will be talking about Monday after the Emmys, TMZ offers: King of schmaltz-pop Barry Manilow.
The 60-year old crooner will be performing at the Emmy Awards on Sunday, and the drama of his performance might not be whether the Manilow can still hit the high notes, but whether he can get through it without falling flat on his face.
Manilow announced earlier this month that he was going to delay surgery on both of his hips until after the Emmy Awards, where he'll be participating in a special tribute to Dick Clark. The singer is also nominated for Best Performance in a Variety Show for his PBS special "Music and Passion." But the usually self-assured Barry recently said, "I'm anxious to make it through the Emmy Awards and then right to the hospital."
So it looks like it'll be a bit of a struggle for Manilow and his rickety hips, providing one of the more riveting, TiVo-ready moments of the telecast. Will he make it? And do you really care? Most of all, what Manilow classic performance will you miss the most if the legend is laid up for longer than we'd care to think about?

Today's Emmy nominations announcement was supposed to mark a turning point in Emmy history. The Academy of Television Arts & Sciences revised the nomination process to ensure, in part, that some new faces got nods. Did they succeed? There certainly a was a lot of turnover this year, but the new nominees still leave a lot to be desired.
The list of those that didn't get recognized is surprising, for both good and bad reasons. Here are the five things that stood out most to us:
Forget last year...
"Lost," James Spader, Felicity Huffman and Patricia Arquette were all major winners last year - and not nominated this year. Kiefer Sutherland is the only lead actor nominated from last year in the drama category. Tony Shalhoub is the only lead actor nominated from last year in the comedy category.
