Carmen, Will You Sign My Abs?!

Carmen Electra and new boyfriend Rob Patterson went to Villa last night and signed the bare torso of an excited fan. Haven't we seen those guys before?

Also in L.A.: Rosario Dawson upped her indie cred with KCRW DJ/boyfriend Mathieu Schreyer (though they didn't want to be photographed together), Felicity Huffman talked twins and Mrs. Partridge Shirley Jones was out at Miceli's in Hollywood.

NY was full of hot men: David Beckham looking mayjah in a suit, Jonathan Rhys Meyers rocking a stache and Tom Brady had paps wondering "what's in the box?!"

Felicity Shows for Ryan's Show -- in PJs

Felicity Huffman in her PJs.Felicity Huffman's got a look that's made for radio.

The desperate housewife sleepwalked her way over to Ryan Seacrest's radio show this morning -- in her bedclothes! Only problem was, her interview with Ryan was scheduled for tomorrow, not today. Seacrest gamely let her into the studio, where she called herself "a loser," blaming her casual getup on a late work night, and jokingly, on an I.Q. roughly equal to "room temperature."

At least she was kind enough to roll her pajama pants, explaining that the dog had peed on them a little bit.

Felicity Adopts a Black ... Puppy

Felicity Huffman's adoption of a black lab went a little smoother than Madonna's controversial Malawian baby purchase adoption.

On Friday, the "Desperate Housewives" star picked up a pup at an L.A. humane organization as an early holiday gift for her daughters, proving that not all celebrity adoptions require a trip to the Third World and an appearance on Oprah!

Blood on the Set of "Desperate Housewives"

A bloody and seemingly banged up Felicity Huffman was wheeled off the set of "Desperate Housewives" yesterday, as the cast and crew could only stare in amazement. But fear not D.H. fans, it's all part of the show.

The actress donned the battered housewife look for a dramatic scene in Canoga Park, Calif. No word on just who or what caused the injuries to Felicity's alter ego. Could this be the result of the much anticipated supermarket hostage situation promised by creator Marc Cherry? Guess we'll just have to wait and see!

"Housewives" Not Hassled by Critics

Eva Longoria: Click to watchThe ladies of "Desperate Housewives" had a tough task at this weekend's Season 2 DVD release party -- trying to talk up a season that was seen as a critical failure by many.

An extremely tanned Eva Longoria stepped up to defend the season saying, "I'm so proud of this DVD, because I think once you see it, you'll really realize how good season two was, instead of listening to just critics, saying, 'Oh, they're in a slump. Oh, it wasn't like last year.'"

Longoria's co-stars mirrored her sentiments and seemed unfazed by the show's lack of Emmy nominations. "Wonderful people got nominated this year, fantastic shows," said last year's Emmy winner Felicity Huffman, "Everybody gets their little five minutes in the spotlight, and I'm so happy to be a part of it."

And with all this talk about last season, it was refreshing to see a new face to talk about things to come. Hottie Josh Henderson joins the cast as Nicolette Sheridan's nephew and promises he'll be just as scheming as his aunt, "He's stirring up a little trouble on Wisteria Lane."

The third-season debut of "Desperate Housewives" premieres September 24.

It's All About Eva

Citing Felicity Huffman's recent success in 'Transamerica' as an inspiration, Eva Longoria says she wants to be able to do both TV and film. Eva got her chance, via a personal invite from Michael Douglas, in the new thriller, 'The Sentinel.'

Longoria says she enjoyed offsetting the estrogen-dominated 'Desperate Housewives' with the testosterone-filled set of 'The Sentinel.'

The film, also starring Kiefer Sutherland and Kim Basinger, hits theaters April 21.

Knightley, Williams Top Oscar Fashions

A pregnant Rache Weisz also shined

By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

(Mar. 5) -- Keira Knightley proved to be fashion royalty at the Academy Awards. She wore a wine-colored, one-shoulder gown by Vera Wang that hit the right balance between youthful funkiness and movie-star glamour.

The 20-year-old wore her strawberry blond hair in a loose ponytail, and she had on a one-of-a-kind necklace with emeralds, rubies and diamonds from the 1960s she chose from the Bulgari archives.

Michelle Williams modeled herself after classic screen sirens, wearing a yellow chiffon gown with tulle pleats surrounding the V neck.

On her arm was Heath Ledger in a classic bow-tie tuxedo, down to the white pocketsquare.

The other Reese Witherspoon and Ryan Phillipe looked like a superstar couple she wore a gown with rows of silver beads and he was dressed in a three-piece suit with a black tie.

Felicity Huffman wore a supersexy black gown by Zac Posen with a plunging V neck, keyhole back, sheer panels on the side and pleated bodice and hem.

For Rachel Weisz, who is 7 months pregnant, comfort was important in picking her long, slinky black gown with cap sleeves which also showed off significant cleavage. "My friend Narciso Rodriguez made me three dresses and I chose one this morning," she said. Her Chopard emerald-cut diamond demi-drop earrings had round white diamond studs.

Carmen Marc Valvo custom-designed Queen Latifah's black strapless gown with tiers of soft, diagonal ruffles.

Jessica Alba, who was caught by the cameras touching up her Dior lipgloss, chose a tight gold Versace halter gown with floral beading that she said "fit like a glove," and Jane Seymour was in a champagne satin halter gown with jeweled accents on the bodice by Pamella Roland.

Sandra Bullock and Amy Adams both picked gowns with pockets. Bullock's navy gown was by Angel Sanchez and Adams' chocolate brown gown with ribbon applique was by Carolina Herrera. Adams even borrowed Herrera's own aquamarine dangling earrings.

Charlize Theron's forest-green, handpainted gown with a bow on one shoulder was designed by John Galliano for Christian Dior. She said the leather silk satin fabric was "insane" but some might have said that about the too-big bow.

Jennifer Lopez was in a lighter green gown with a fitted bodice that laced up in the back like a corset.

Ziyi Zhang picked a Giorgio Armani gown fresh off the runway: a black scalloped seashell-shaped lace bustier with jet beading worn with a gray Swarovski crystal encrusted full crinoline skirt. Hilary Swank was in a sweetheart-style black strapless gown by Versace.

Jennifer Aniston was in a black tank gown by Rochas with a long train and a vintage platinum-and-diamond Bulgari necklace from the 1930s. Makeup artist Angela Levin, calling Aniston "a sun-kissed angel," emphasized her eyelashes with a not-yet-available Chanel mascara.

Nicole Kidman was in a cream-colored strapless gown with beautiful delicate embroidery, and Naomi Watts wore a nude-colored, one-shoulder gown with frayed fabric on the top by Givenchy. As the model in jeweler David Yurman's new ads, Watts' rose quartz-and-diamond earrings and a rose quartz ring were made especially for her.

Jennifer Garner wore a halter-style, hand-embroidered Michael Kors gown in nude-colored tulle featuring Swarovski crystals and sterling silver flowers.

Jada Pinkett Smith was in a bright blue strapless column gown by Roberto Cavalli. "I just wanted to be a little vibrant and a little sexy on the carpet," she said. Husband Will Smith chimed in, "That's my wife in the dress. It becomes difficult to notice the dress itself."

Salma Hayek had on a slate blue gown, and her hair was long and loose.

One of the biggest misses of the night was Helena Bonham Carter. Her off-the-shoulder, tea-length blue satin gown was fine but her bed-head hair and clunky white shoes were not.

Oscar.com fashion analyst Tom Julian was a fan of Meryl Streep's plum V-neck gown with long sleeves that she wore with dangling earrings. Julian also noted that the shape of the Oscar gowns shifted to full skirts from the more formfitting styles at the award shows earlier in the season.

As for the men, George Clooney was trying to be sarcastic when he told E!'s Isaac Mizrahi "I'm very stylish," but he indeed was in his Armani two-button peak lapel tuxedo.

And the directors of "Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit," Nick Park and Steve Box, wore oversized striped bow ties, which somehow seemed a perfect fit.

The Oscars were presented at the Kodak Theatre in Los Angeles.

Witherspoon Walks Line, Huffman Hits Road Toward Oscar Duel

By DAVID GERMAIN, AP MOVIE WRITER

What a classic showdown of opposites for the best-actress Academy Award: Reese Witherspoon as country singer June Carter in "Walk the Line" against Felicity Huffman as a man undergoing a sex change in "Transamerica."

The two have dominated Hollywood's awards season over their fellow nominees, Judi Dench in "Mrs. Henderson Presents," Keira Knightley in "Pride & Prejudice" and Charlize Theron in "North Country."

At the Golden Globes, Witherspoon took best actress in a musical or comedy and Huffman won for dramatic actress.

Witherspoon's win over Huffman at the Screen Actors Guild Awards seems to give her the Oscar edge. And it doesn't hurt Witherspoon's chances that "Walk the Line" is a $100 million hit, while "Transamerica" is a modest arthouse success.

But the Oscars have a history of honoring the little-seen gender-bending flick over the big, splashy hit. Just ask Annette Bening and Hilary Swank.

Six years ago, Bening was the favorite as a caustic suburban wife in the wildly popular "American Beauty." Like Witherspoon, Bening had won the Golden Globe for best actress in a musical or comedy and the SAG prize. Like Huffman, Swank had earned the Golden Globe for dramatic actress as a woman impersonating a man in the small art-house hit "Boys Don't Cry."

On Oscar night, Swank won.

This year's nominations were the first for both Witherspoon, a Hollywood marquee name whose hits include "Legally Blonde" and "Sweet Home Alabama," and Huffman, a respected stage performer who was largely a bit player on screen until her TV success with "Desperate Housewives."

Like "Walk the Line" co-star Joaquin Phoenix -- nominated for best actor as the love of Carter's life, Johnny Cash -- Witherspoon did her own singing and learned to strum the autoharp, the instrument that Carter played.

Witherspoon is an absolute spitfire in "Walk the Line," beautifully capturing the gabby humor of Carter's stage persona and the serious demeanor of a woman holding her passion for Cash in check until he cleans up his act in his private life.

In show business since age 12, Witherspoon's connection to Carter, part of the legendary country-music clan, goes back even further.

"I was 9 years old when I first heard the Carter family. I actually played her mother in the fourth-grade play, so I had to practice over and over again, `I Saw the Light,' and play the autoharp," Witherspoon said. "So I had a little practice with the autoharp."

As gender-bending performances go, Huffman's is up there with Swank's, Dustin Hoffman's in "Tootsie" or Julie Andrews' in "Victor/Victoria."

In the road-trip tale "Transamerica," Huffman is a marvel of tics, shy glances, awkward posture and heartbreaking melancholy that underlies the sunny surface disposition of a man on the verge of becoming the woman she always wanted to be.

It was the first film lead Huffman had ever been offered, and she has worked tirelessly to get "Transamerica," shot on a tiny $1 million budget, seen as widely as possible.

"What I've actually decided is, I'm building a sandwich board, so I'm going to be going around ringing the bell," Huffman said. "The reason I would like people to see this film, aside from the fact that I actually am proud of it, is because I think it uplifts and I think it unifies. And I don't mean to be on a soapbox, but it's lovely to have stories that break down the walls of, `You're different from me."'

Two nominees already have Oscars, Theron as best actress for "Monster" and Dench as supporting actress for "Shakespeare in Love."

Theron is an iron-willed tiger in "North Country" as a single mom who fights back against sexual harassment by male co-workers at a Minnesota mining company.

Before her remarkable transformation in "Monster," Theron was known more as a gorgeous face than a serious actress, despite a solid performance in "The Cider House Rules" and twice co-starring in Woody Allen films.

With her second nomination in three years, Theron has established herself as a Hollywood heavyweight.

A five-time nominee, Dench is a perpetual heavyweight whether in Oscar-nominated roles for "Mrs. Brown," "Iris" and "Chocolat" or playing spymaster "M" in the James Bond movies.

In "Mrs. Henderson Presents," Dench is a delightful mix of dictatorial derision and fickle fancy, playing a society widow who launches a nude stage revue in prudish 1930s London.

Dench had a scene-stealing role opposite first-time nominee Knightley in "Pride & Prejudice," the Jane Austen adaptation that was a throwback to old-fashioned period romances without a trace of modern cynicism.

A rising star best known for the British hit "Bend It Like Beckham" and the blockbuster "Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl," Knightley was luminous as Austen's heroine, a sly, wry, ahead-of-her-time woman who bucks her mother's efforts to marry her off for money instead of love.

'Housewife' Huffman Hits the Road in 'Transamerica'

By DAVID GERMAIN, THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

Felicity Huffman wasn't supposed to win the Emmy over her more glamorous and talked-about "Desperate Housewives" co-stars. But she did. Now, she's an Academy Award favorite for her performance in "Transamerica" -- in which she plays a man prepping for sex-change surgery.

Not bad for an actress who was thinking a few years ago that maybe she wasn't supposed to have a Hollywood career, after all. Through the few ups and many downs in her career, Huffman often thought about quitting, pulling into her driveway and crying with her head on the steering wheel after bad days and failed auditions.

Huffman managed to fleetingly catch the eye of audiences with bit parts "The Spanish Prisoner" and "Magnolia," and she endeared herself to a cult of fans who caught her as the slightly flighty producer on the acclaimed but short-lived TV series "Sports Night."

To those who wondered why Huffman did not steadily rise to bigger and better parts, the answer is easy.
