Giada: Just Say No ... to Plane Food

Food Network's Giada De Laurentiis is used to egg, gorgonzola and pancetta sandwiches or Chicken Milanese with tomato and fennel sauce -- and unfortunately for her, an in-flight dry turkey sandwich just ain't cutting it.

Yesterday at LAX, the "Everyday Italian" host told us she loves plane food ... but the sarcasm in her voice said otherwise.

"Impossible" Chef Caught in Very Possible Lies

The hard-ass British chef who stars in Food Network's "Dinner: Impossible" is finding that spinning tall tales about one's background is no cakewalk -- and now the network says it's investigating his alleged misrepresentations. Oh, deah.

Robert Irvine has claimed all over the place that he'd helped design Prince Charles and Princess Di's wedding cake, among other things. But after an oddly thorough investigation by the St. Petersburg Times, Irvine admits he didn't really bake it -- or have anything to do with it ... and that's just the icing.

"It's unfortunate if Robert embellished the extent of his culinary experiences," said a Food Network rep. "We are investigating the matter and taking the necessary steps to ensure the accuracy of all representations of Robert on Food Network and foodnetwork.com."

Irvine had no further comment today.

Rachael Ray Expands Her Reach

By MICHAEL HILL, ASSOCIATED PRESS WRITER

Rachael Ray makes lousy coffee.

She doesn't bake too well either. It's all the measuring. It clashes with her beat-the-clock cooking style. "I can never remember if it's one heaping, or two little or two big, or whatever," she says.

As Food Network viewers know, Rachael Ray is all about speed -- a dash of salt and a splash of E.V.O.O. (extra-virgin olive oil in Rachaelspeak) heaped with liberal dollops of personal anecdotes that have made her one of the most ubiquitous cooks in America.

Even a simple lunch in her Adirondack cabin is served with a hubbub. As her husband, mother and pit bull, Isaboo, sidle by in the surprisingly cramped kitchen, she nukes meat loaf with barbecue sauce in the microwave while nibbling on green beans. All the while, she stands and talks over plans to drive to Montreal for a photo shoot, stopping only a second to savor a forkful of her handiwork.

"Mmmm. That's good!"
