You can say a lot of things about Kevin Federline (and Lord knows we have), but when it comes to relentless self-promotion, few stack it better than the dope rapper, and we do mean dope. Our personal favorite was his stint as a WWE punching bag -- but now we have this nugget from AOL's online game show, "Gold Rush."
A fatigued K-Fed appeared on the show as a video clue presenter for a trivia challenge. It was his job to "rap" clues about various musicians. Particularly ironic was the final answer: Vanilla Ice.
Pay attention to Federline's introduction; ET host Mark Steines should get a freakin' Emmy for keeping a straight face while introducing K-Fed as a "very special guest," saying, "You will witness the vocal stylings of recording artist Kevin Federline." Vocal stylings? (*cough*)
Anyway, be sure to check out K-Fed and the "Gold Rush" phenomenon at goldrush.aol.com.

There are ways to collect money from someone, and then there's this: AOL said yesterday that it was preparing to search for gold and platinum bars at David Wolfgang Hawke's parents' house to try to recover the $12.8 million he was ordered to pay AOL in a lawsuit last year.

AOL says that it's just trying to recover what a court has dictated it is due. "This exercise isn't something out of . . . 'Treasure Island,'" said AOL spokesman Nicholas Graham. "This is a court-directed, judge-approved legal process that is simply aimed at responsibly recovering hidden assets." Hawke was sued in US District Court in Virginia by the company for sending millions of unwanted spam e-mails to its customers.
But it's not the only gold-digging that's going on at AOL, as AOL.com and "Survivor" creator Mark Burnett get set to launch "Gold Rush," a groundbreaking interactive reality game, on September 13. In the game, players will have the chance to win over $2 million in gold hidden in various locations across the United States. "

Mark Burnett Productions and AOL have signed a major production deal to develop a real-life reality treasure hunt called "Gold Rush!" The show will air exclusively on the AOL.com website, and will track real-life challengers searching for hidden treasure across the United States.
The challenging clues will be placed throughout the AOL network, including websites such as AOL.com, AIM.com, Moviefone.com and MapQuest.com. The clues and the show will also be promoted on other media, including television, print and wireless.
"With 'Survivor,' 'The Apprentice,' 'The Contender' and 'Rock Star,' I've been amazed by the volume of fans who constantly want to communicate online about each of these shows. They clearly want a lot more content than they can enjoy during one hour of television per week," said Mark Burnett. "The world is changing and the Internet is about to become the next broadcast network. With the volume of people able to watch content on their computers between 9am to 5pm, it could very well become the new primetime. The immediate future will take advantage of content that utilizes television, print and the Internet in concert. AOL and I are embracing this immediate future through 'Gold Rush.'"
"This is a totally original concept that comes to us from the guy who created reality television," said Jon Miller, Chairman and CEO of America Online. "It defines engagement; it's disruptive by nature and it will certainly be habit forming – all the best of the Internet in one fell swoop."
