Last year at this time, Haley Joel Osment was recovering from a mailbox-smashing car accident stemming from a DUI. This year, he's just another college sophomore.
TMZ cameras caught the now 19-year-old "Sixth Sense" star walking around NYU yesterday, where he told our photog that he had a few movies lined up for the end of the year ... between Theater and History class. I study dead people!
Last October, Osment plead no contest to one count of driving his Saturn under the influence of alcohol and one count of possession of marijuana, after a scary crash that left the child star with a broken rib. He was sentenced to three years probation, 60 hours of rehab and six months of AA meetings.

TMZ has learned that actor Haley Joel Osment has pled no contest to two misdemeanor charges stemming from a horrifying late car crash in July. According to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office, Osment plead no contest to one count of driving under the influence of alcohol and one count of possession of marijuana.
Osment was sentenced to three years probation, 60 hours of alcohol rehab, six months of AA meetings (with a minimum of 26 meetings within that span of time) and was fined $1500 in penalties.
Osment, who was nominated for an Oscar for his role in "The Sixth Sense" at age 11, lost control of his 1995 Saturn on his way home and collided with a brick pillar in a suburb of Los Angeles around 1 a.m. on July 20. No bystanders were injured in the wreck, but Osment wasn't so lucky: the actor was rushed to a nearby hospital where he was treated for a broken rib and an injury to his shoulder.
The collision caused the vehicle to flip over onto its roof and come to rest a short distance from the initial impact. The actor was reportedly alert and talkative following the accident, and was alone at the time of the crash.

Haley Joel Osment's photo op at a cop shop earlier this month proves one thing -- celebs have figured out how to take a good mugshot.
Osment was arrested on August 18, a month after he crashed his 1995 Saturn into a brick pillar in Los Angeles. The "Sixth Sense" star was charged with misdemeanor driving under the influence of alcohol, driving with a .08 blood alcohol level or higher, with an enhancement of driving with a .15 or higher. Osment was also charged with misdemeanor possession of marijuana while driving.
Osment's smiley-faced mugshot has shades of the now-famous mug of Mel Gibson, in which the "Braveheart" star has every hair in place and the right hairs out of place. Blame it on Tom Delay, whose recent mugshot makes it look like the Congressman just won a medal of honor.
Will the days of Nick Nolte ever return? We can only hope.
