Come Back to Me Jack White!

Jack WhiteWhat do the White Stripes,The Raconteurs and the film "Cold Mountain" have in common? A certain man by the name of Jack White -- and if you're half the fan the TMZ staff is, then it's time to wipe away those Monday blues with the following eBay auctions.

When Jack isn't jamming with Meg in White Stripes, he's moonlighting as a Raconteur. Here is your chance to own a poster from a NYC Raconteurs concert -- but not just any poster; it's an original silk-screened limited edition poster by Rob Jones. Just because you weren't there doesn't mean you can't own the art!

If you've been on the lookout for a mandolin, now's your chance to own the one used by Jack White in the film "Cold Mountain." Jack played the mandolin while he sang "Never Far Away." Imagine how jealous the rest of the guys in your bluegrass band will be when you strum this beauty.

Jack White's and Sting's Orchestral Maneuverings

Proving your musicianship by playing with an orchestra has long been a part of pop star pretension. Sir Paul McCartney penned his "Liverpool Oratorio" to prove his classical mettle and rock bands like Aerosmith and the old Guns 'N Roses incorporated orchestras into various renditions of their respective hits. Now, Jack White and Sting are the latest popsters to try their hand at symphony.

Sting is really digging deep into history. He's recorded a collection of works by composer John Dowland who lived from 1563 to 1626. Talk about dancing to the oldies! His "Songs from the Labrynth" is probably not going to make the Billboard Hot 100, but when you have as much loot as Sting you can dabble in a different kind of lute all you like. For those interested in questioning the tantric one in person about his latest offering, he'll be in New York City on October 10th (the record release date) to sign copies at the Barnes & Noble, 1972 Broadway (at 66th St.), between 7-8pm. Details here.

As if Jack White isn't in enough bands these days, he's also got his own orchestra project set for release this fall. MTV reports that White will release "Aluminium" this November, which is a slate of orchestral recordings White somehow found time to finish recording earlier this year. You can sample some tracks on MySpace and get the record starting November 6th exclusively on a special website set up for the project. compose over the years. But, if you want to get one of these sure to be eBay collectors items you better get there early as White is reportedly only releasing 3,333 numbered CDs and 999 numbered LPs. No idea why the limited or odd numbers. But, that's Jack White. He rarely does anything like anyone else.

So, who's next to do the symphony thing? Maybe K-Fed will bust out a little Popozao Overture? It couldn't be worse than the first version.

Jack White Hits on Photog -- Sorta

During a photo shoot with his band, The Raconteurs, Jack White had only good things to say to a lingering cameraman.

Though we're not sure if he was being sarcastic or serious, a smiling White yelled across the street to the paparazzo, "Cool haircut man, you look handsome!" The photog responded with a "thanks, hun" and continued to shoot the band.

Jack- you're so complimentary!

TMZ Says: Meet Philadelphia

Obviously, TMZ is focused on the Hollywood scene with a fair amount of NYC coverage as well. This focus makes sense given that these two cities are the seats of power for the entertainment industry. However, there are some other hot spots making serious contributions to both the major label and indie scenes that are worth exploring. I'll start off with a look at the Philadelphia music scene, in what I hope will be a rotating look around various cities and regions that are putting out some great music.

Philly has a great scene and is no slouch when it comes to producing major stars. Will Smith, Boys II Men, the Roots and Grammy Winner Jill Scott all hail from the City of Brotherly Love. In addition to these big names, there are a host of rising stars garnering well deserved national buzz.

Park the Van Records is making a national splash with nearly its entire roster hailing from the City of Brother Love. Dr. Dog, whose video has done very well on MTV2, the Teeth and National Eye are fast becoming national indie rock darlings and have the kids in Philly dancing down South Street and beyond. Dr. Dog will soon hit the road with Jack White and the Raconteurs.

Philly's Alec Ounsworth is the lead singer for what has been by far the most sought after indie band in the U.S., Clap Your Hands Say Yeah. Some of you will note that most of the band lives in Brooklyn. While that is true, Alec still lives in Philadelphia and pushes his hometown's music scene like a good loyal son. Major labels have been salivating to sign CYHSY after the band sold tens of thousands of records on its own (an amazing reported 90,000+ in the U.S. alone), but the band has impressively declined all overtures to date. They are working on new material and much of the industry is anxious to see whether they remain a self-contained indie juggernaut or buy into the lure of the big label money machine.

Clive Davis had his J Records team swoop into Philadelphia, not to order a cheese steak, but to land rock and rollers Silvertide. Philly area filmmaker M. Night Shyamalon hooked his homies up with a performance cameo in his movie, "Lady in the Water" and featured two Silvertide tracks on the soundtrack. These guys are renowned for a great live show, catch them when they come your way.

Amos Lee is one of the best singer-songwriters in the game right now. The Philly native has toured with heavyweights like Norah Jones and Bob Dylan, but will look to breakout into headlining as he's set to release the follow up to his impressive self-titled debut. His new record "Supply And Demand" drops October 3rd.

And, there is plenty of talent left in the Philly unsigned band talent pool for record execs to choose from: the Pawnshop Roses, the Difference, Ike, Jealousy Curve and many others have got the goods to join their Philly forebears on the national scene.

White (Stripe) House For Sale

If you have an extra $1 million sitting around, you can snatch up the Detroit mansion the White Stripes used to record the Grammy-winning album "Get Behind Me Satan." The band recorded the album in just two weeks at their "Third Man" studio, located in the foyer of the house.
Jack White
Jack White moved into the majestic house in 2003, which boasts a grand staircase, a beautiful "secret" garden, a dining room with an ornate chandelier and a basement decorated in an all-too-familiar black, white and red. The home's layout and interior can be seen on the house's website, which features a virtual tour of the home.

Now, before you hop in your car and cruise to Motor City for the open house, be warned. You must be pre-approved for an appointment before you can even walk in the door. So gather up a group of your friends and pool your cash, because this house won't be on the market for long.
