Lindsay Lohan -- Justice Delayed is Sweet Justice

It's hard to imagine wanting an extra year of probation, but when you're Lindsay Lohan -- and facing possible jail time -- it's actually a good thing.

Lindsay Lohan

A judge today decided to extend Lindsay's probation another year so she can finish her alcohol education classes. Her lawyer, the effervescent Shawn Chapman Holley, told the judge Lindsay has been extremely busy and has only been able to complete about half her classes.

Specifically, Lindsay has completed 15 of 26 individual alcohol classes and 13 of 26 group alcohol classes and 13 of 28 self-help sessions. She completed all six education classes.

Lindsay LohanLindsay's lawyer says her client is doing a movie in Texas.

The prosecutor said if the court has to jump through hoops again to accommodate Lindsay, jail is the only answer.

All sides will be back in court for another progress hearing on December 15.

Chris Brown Cops Plea -- No Jail Time

Chris Brown has copped a plea in his assault case. He won't do jail time, but he will spend 6 months doing things like road cleanup. He's also been ordered to stay 50 yards clear of Rihanna.

Chris Brown & Rihanna: Click to watch
He'll spend 180 days doing community labor (8 hours a day -- 1440 hours total) -- which is, in effect, hard labor. He'll do his service in Virginia which is where Brown lives. A Virginia law enforcement officer told us Brown will be picking up trash, pulling weeds and washing fire trucks.

He gets 5 years probation for FELONY assault -- he pled guilty. He'll get supervised probation. He'll have to come back to court every three months.

He must enroll in a domestic violence counseling program.

This is interesting ... the judge said if Brown and Rihanna are at the same public events, the 50-yard stay away turns into 10 yards. The stay away order lasts 5 years.

The judge said she wanted to make sure that Chris Brown "was treated as any other person who comes through this court."

If Brown violates probation, he could get up to 4 years in prison.

Rihanna is in the courthouse but never entered the courtroom.

So Brown is now a convicted felon and loses the following rights: To own a gun, to sit on a jury, subject to search and seizure without a search warrant and he now has limitations on travel.

When Brown left the courtroom ... Rihanna walked in the courtroom. The judge explained the deal to her. The judge is telling Rihanna about the protective order.

Brown Wants Misdemeanor Plea, No Jail Time

Chris Brown ExclusiveSources tell TMZ Chris Brown would cop a plea, but only to a misdemeanor and with no jail time. After we broke the story yesterday AM it has triggered a passionate public reaction.

We're told Brown's people have consulted with outside legal eagles -- including law school professors -- who have said Rihanna's own aggressiveness takes it out of the felony category. Sources say Rihanna was the first one to strike -- slapping and striking Brown "numerous times" while he was drivΩing, after seeing the text message from another woman. And Rihanna was fighting Brown as he punched and hurt her. We're told much of this is reflected in the official police report based on what Rihanna told cops. As a result, they say, this is not a case that demands a felony plea.

On the other side, there are plenty of cases in which the woman engages the man in a fight but the jury convicts the male because it was an unfair fight and the man could have walked away. The photographs of Rihanna -- the most graphic of which have not been seen by the public -- demonstrate Brown's superior strength. Add to that the fact that Brown had no significant injuries and it presents problems for him.

Perhaps worse for Brown, sources tell TMZ Rihanna told cops he had beaten her before and the violence had been escalating.

And there's this. According to the detective's note filed with the search warrant papers, Brown sent a text message to Rihanna's assistant in which he apologized for what he had done to Rihanna and said he was getting help. That would be admissible in court and extremely damaging -- as a legal admission.

Britney's Ex Charged with Three Felonies

Adnan GhalibAdnan Ghalib -- the papper/ex-BF of Britney Spears -- has been charged with three felonies for allegedly smashing his car into a process server earlier this month ... and there's a warrant out for his arrest.

The L.A. County District Attorney has charged Adnan with assault with a deadly weapon, battery, and hit and run -- all felonies.

Ghalib allegedly hit a man with his car in an alley back on February 11. The man was reportedly trying to serve Adnan with legal papers on behalf of Britney Spears.

One law enforcement source says Ghalib allegedly hit the dude, who landed on the hood, and then continued driving.

The server jumped on the hood of Ghalib's Mercedes to avoid being pinned against a trash truck.

Band Begs Ahnuld -- Don't Let Paris Slide!

Paris HiltonWith all the press surrounding the "Free Paris" petition, it was only a matter of time before someone started a counter petition ... and the guys from a band called The Exies have done just that.

The online campaign urges the Governator to "do everything in his power to ensure that Paris Hilton serve her full 45 day sentence." Whether or not the band is taking action just to get their name out, or if they have a sincere interest in misdemeanor justice, one thing is for sure: they're getting support. The petition, titled "Jail Paris Hilton" has received 61,663 signatures so far.

Poor Paris, it looks like she might actually be treated like a mere civilian.
