Most Famous Photog Ever -- Imagine Losing It All

In the world of high-end photography, Annie Leibovitz's portfolio is the equivalent of The Beatles' catalog -- and she's in danger of losing it all.

Annie Leibovitz, John Lennon, Yoko Ono

Leibovitz, who took the infamous last photo of John Lennon before he was assassinated, is facing catastrophic financial problems -- if she doesn't pay back a $24 million loan by Tuesday, she'll lose the rights to every big photo she's ever taken. The list includes that controversial Miley Cyrus photo from last year, the pregnant Demi Moore Vanity Fair cover, the cover of Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run" -- and really every interesting VF cover for the last 20 years or so.

In classic Michael Jackson-esque form, Leibovitz sunk deep into debt and then got a loan using her photo catalog (estimated at $40 million) and homes as collateral.

Tuesday is D-Day.

Vatican to Lennon: We'll Let it Be

The Vatican has finally gotten over that little thing John Lennon said back in 1966 -- that The Beatles were more famous than Jesus Christ.

The Vatican newspaper, according to MSNBC, now says the remark "sounds only like a 'boast' by a young working-class Englishman faced with unexpected success, after growing up in the legend of Elvis and rock and roll."

The story in Vatican Daily Osservatore Romano went on to praise The Beatles on the 40th anniversary of The White Album -- apparently they're fine with the Charles Manson theme song "Helter Skelter," "Revolution," and "Why Don't We Do it in the Road."

Ob-la-di, ob-la-da.

Lennon to Jonas Bros: You Ain't So Fab

Imagine there's no Jonas Brothers .... It's easy if you try -- at least according to John Lennon's son.

Not only does Sean not know who the hell those guys are, but outside LAX yesterday the 32-year-old Beatle spawn asked if they were, "like a Disney cartoon or something?" Yeah, something like that.

You can't expect a guy and his lady friend to know about pop culture, when they just stepped out of "The Great Gatsby!"

Hey Jude, Don't Be Afraid ... of Daddy's Ghost

Julian Lennon (now 45 years old!) couldn't escape his father's legacy last night at Mr. Chow.

Both "Eight Days a Week" and "Ticket to Ride" played as John's look-alike son went to his car -- Mr. Chow's creepy idea of a tribute or just eerie timing?

Imagine -- Yoko Ono, Extortion Victim

Yoko OnoTMZ has learned that Yoko Ono's personal driver has been arrested in New York City for allegedly trying to extort the widow of John Lennon. Now, the driver is saying he's the victim.

Police sources tell TMZ Koral Karson allegedly told Yoko Ono that he had photos and tapes of her that were highly embarrassing and that for $2 million the tapes would never surface. Today, New York cops obtained a warrant and searched Karson's home. Karson was arrested and charged with attempted grand larceny in the first degree.

Karson made some fiery accusations of his own on his way out of the police station yesterday, telling reporters that the only reason Ono pressed charges was "to stop me from pursuing a sexual harassment case." Ono's publicist, Elliot Mintz, has denied the claim saying, "That is completely false. She's the victim here,"

Sources say Karson allegedly confronted Ono with his ultimatum this past weekend, the anniversary of John Lennon's death.

Mintz tells TMZ his client was "shocked by what happened and did what any citizen would do -- she went to the cops."

Karson is currently in custody and will be arraigned Thursday.

Monroe? Einstein? How Are They Still Rich?

Forbes has once again released its annual Top-Earning Dead Celebrities list, and while it's no surprise why most of the buried big shots made the list (Kurt Cobain, John Lennon and Elvis are all still banking from music sales) there were two lifeless wonders that left us scratching our heads -- Albert Einstein and Marilyn Monroe.
Albert Einstein / Marilyn Monroe
According to Forbes, Marilyn Monroe raked in a cool $8 million last year, earning her the ninth spot on the dead earners list. But where is it all coming from? Nearly a half-century after her death, the blonde bombshell is still cashing in on her image -- or rather the licensing of it.

Just recently, Marilyn's image was used to sell perfume in Europe, Dom Perignon champagne, Absolut vodka and vehicles for General Motors. And don't forget about the thousands of lesser-known products with Marilyn's face on them ranging from t-shirts to posters. Just like J.F.K., seems like the world can't get enough Marilyn.

Lennon Vs. Kim Jong-Il: Action Figure Showdown

Its the age old problem of kitsch vs. cool.
John Lennon / Kim Jong-Il
You can either be the coolest guy in town with the John Lennon talking action figure, or you can show your ironic humor with the Kim Jong-Il action figure. What's a person to do??

On one hand, the Lennon action figure from NCEA is an 18" tall figure of ultimate coolness. It features John wearing denim, dark glasses, his trademark New York T-Shirt and says "All we are saying is give peace a chance." On the other hand, Kim Jong-Il is wearing camouflage pants and has a red rocket in his hand. He doesn't talk, but who needs words when you've got the bomb?

We haven't had a decision this difficult since My Little Pony came out with a unicorn the same week G.I. Joe issued the special edition Snake Eyes action figure.

Baby You Can Buy My House

For any of you hard-core Beatles fans out there with a few million dollars laying around, John Lennon's former home in the U.K. is on the market.John Lennon Home
Lennon bought the property in 1964 at the height of Beatlemania and lived there with his first wife Cynthia and son Julian. The house was also the site of the blossoming relationship between Lennon and Yoko Ono. In fact, in Cynthia Lennon's book "John" she wrote that she returned home from vacation early to find Yoko Ono in her house wearing her bathrobe. Ouch!

The house is on the market for $11.1 million and is 24 miles southwest of London and features six bedrooms, five reception rooms, a playroom, sauna, swimming pool and enough music history to keep your cocktail party conversations interesting for the rest of your life.

So while money can't buy you love, it can definitely buy the house that love broke up.

John Lennon and the Grudge Report

The "Grudge Report" a site that parodies the famous news gathering site "Drudge Report" has appeared on the internet. The offending website is an advertisement for the upcoming Lions Gate documentary " The U.S. vs. John Lennon."

The documentary chronicles Lennon the peace activist as opposed to Lennon the Beatle and his troubles with the U.S. government- from the legal wrangling involving FBI files to the goverment try to deport him. The film will have interviews with Lennon's widow Yoko Ono, Walter Cronkite, Geraldo Rivera, activist Angela Davis, and Watergate ex-con G. Gordon Liddy.

While a parody of websites is nothing new, the act of re-creating a news website with the intent to promote a documentary about a peace activist is. Was Drudge irked? Who knows. But he did post the headline "Paramount Movie Campaign Mocks Drudge Report...."

"The U.S. vs. John Lennon" is set to be released in September.

Lennon Fans Flock To Commemorate Singer's Death

By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

NEW YORK -- John Lennon fans tried to imagine what might have been.

On the 25th anniversary of his murder, fans brought flowers, candles and their own bittersweet memories Thursday as they gathered in Central Park's Strawberry Fields -- and in the former Beatle's hometown of Liverpool, England.

"With the country at war, his work and philosophy seem more poignant and more desperately needed than ever," said Kim Polson, 50.

Polson, who said she fell in love with the Beatles when she saw them on television at age 8, was an early morning visitor to Strawberry Fields, the section of Central Park opposite the Dakota apartment building where Lennon was gunned down Dec. 8, 1980. About 75 fans, some of them born after Lennon's death, gathered on a cold morning.

The scene Thursday was much the same in Liverpool, where scores of fans from around the world remembered him with white balloons, flowers and prayers. The balloons, carrying tributes to Lennon, were released into the sky.
