One person who can't be defended though: Our own photog, who pressed Diana Ross about her daughter's condition, oblivious to the fact the daughter we were asking about stood right next to her, unnoticed.

Jail-time advice from one socialite to another? In a segment that will run tomorrow, "The Insider" TV show reports that Paris has been taken under bank-robbing socialite Patty Hearst's wing, and is getting the inside scoop on prison life from Hearst. Patty did time in the mid-'70s after she was abducted by the Symbionese Liberation Army, and then caught on film robbing a bank with them. After serving two years in prison, Hearst's sentence was commuted by Jimmy Carter. She later received a pardon from Bill Clinton.
Sure Leah Remini hangs out with Xenu, but that doesn't mean she expects BFF J.Lo to, too! In a new interview in People magazine, the "King of Queens" actress reveals that while she's definitely committed to Scientology, she isn't trying to convert her best friend -- or anybody else. "I read once that I was trying to get Jennifer to do Scientology because it helps with fertility. I don't know what that's about. That's bull -- that we're sitting there at the Polo Lounge talking about fertility. I think Jennifer knows how to get pregnant," cracked Remini. "She's a fabulous girl. I'm fabulous to hang out with. But it's like, "What could these two have in common? She must be trying to convert her!"
Chill out Carrie! Sarah Jessica Parker reveals her controlling side in a new interview in Glamour magazine. Seems she's prone to picking out poor hubby Matthew Broderick's outfits. "Before he knew me, he felt very confident about dressing on his own," she said. "I seem to have sapped his confidence. He thinks I have become an interloper in his closet ... TMZ secured entry into last night's J.Lo episode of "American Idol" -- and we've got the dirt on what went on behind the scenes!
After going through metal detectors, checking our cell phones/cameras at the door, and depositing our gum into the CBS Studio page's blue cup (no gum chewing allowed on camera), TMZ was ushered to our seats. Celebrities in the audience included Eva Longoria, Sharon Osbourne, J.Lo BFF Leah Remini, and most interestingly, 80s TV bad girl Donna Mills.
Remini brought some of her tough Brooklyn girl edge to the "Idol" set, as staff made an entire row get up and move so she and her hubby, Angelo Pagan, could sit on the aisle. When a page tried to get Leah to dispose of her gum, she shot him an evil death-ray look that sent him cowering back to his post. The power of Xenu!
Booted "Idol" hopeful, curly-haired Chris Sligh entered the studio and the crowd roared with applause and cheers. Sligh must be a huge fan of "King of Queens," because he made a beeline for Remini and introduced himself. Pre-teen fans roamed the set asking for autographs from ex-"Idols" like Sligh, Alaina Alexander (who traipsed around in trollopy red five-inch heels), and Season 5 diva, Mandisa, membah huh? Some Fanjayas even approached Sanjaya Malakar's sexy sister Shyamali for her John Hancockakar!

Didn't Joaquin Phoenix have a different name before?
Yes, Ivette, Joaquin used to answer to another name -- Leaf! But it was not his birth name. He has always been Joaquin, but used the alias Leaf as a child and as a young actor. Around 1989, he dropped that name and returned to Joaquin.
That said, Joaquin will next be seen in "We Own the Night" with Mark Wahlberg, Robert Duvall and Eva Mendes. He will also star with Mark Ruffalo and Jennifer Connelly in the thriller "Reservation Road." Expect both flicks out next year.

Sal, everybody's favorite Barone is indeed supposed to continue on with her television career. "The Path to 9/11" is a mini-series documenting the events which lead up to the tragic event. She can be seen here along with Donnie Wahlberg and Harvey Keitel on September 10 and 11 on ABC at 8/7c.
Her comedy pilot, however, did not get picked up, but, according to ABC president Stephen McPherson, it could be considered for a midseason replacement.
