And the MTV Nominees Are...

MTV AwardsAh, the Music Video Awards ... the one time each year when MTV actually bothers to play videos.

MTV just released its list of 2007 nominees, and there are few surprises. Proving that what goes around comes around, Justin Timberlake and bootylicious Beyonce lead the VMA pack with seven nominations each. Also up for multiple nominations: Kanye West, Rihanna and rehabbing whiner, Amy Winehouse.

U2 and Green Day were nominated for Best Collaboration for "The Saints Are Coming," to benefit Hurricane Katrina victims. And Linkin Park -- remember them? -- picked up three nominations for Best Group, Director and Editing.

Biggest shocker? A Best Video nod for French electro duo Justice -- does the TRL tween set even know who the hell they are? Parlez vous Francais?

"American Idiot"? Try American Genius!

graphic of a question markI heard a long time ago that Green Day was planning on turning "American Idiot" into a movie. Is that still happening?

Green DayMelody, people have been very quiet about this could-be movie for a while, but it seems as though it will in fact come into fruition.

With ideas for the flick pouring in, Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong confirmed to MTV in an interview over the summer that "it's definitely going to happen." But don't expect to see the band members on screen -- they're leaving that to the professionals.

2006 Hits, Misses and Sleepers

Brad PittIf 2005 hits were any indication, it appears that people will just embrace something familiar if they think it's quality entertainment. Cases in point: The latest installments of the 'Star Wars' and 'Harry Potter' movies became the year's top blockbusters; returning hitmakers 50 Cent and Mariah Carey delivered smash albums; and 'CSI,' 'American Idol' and 'Desperate Housewives' continued to dominate the TV landscape.

Jay-Z, McCartney, Linkin Park Team Up

By DAVID BAUDER, AP ENTERTAINMENT WRITER

When Jay-Z walked onto the stage wearing a John Lennon T-shirt underneath his gleaming white suit, it was a hint of the Grammy Awards' oddest mashup of the night.

The rap superstar performed a duet of "Numb/Encore" with Linkin Park. Earlier, when it won a Grammy for best rap-song collaboration, Linkin Park singer Mike Shinoda thanked "everyone in our management and legal teams that made this record possible, because it was a nightmare."

It certainly looked like a business transaction, because Jay-Z and Linkin Park had zero chemistry, barely acknowledging each other onstage.

Toward the end, Shinoda oddly sang a verse of the Beatles' "Yesterday," and that was the second hint. Soon after, Paul McCartney himself walked out to finish the song.

There they stood - the rock legend, hard rockers from a few generations after and a rap mogul. McCartney and Shinoda sang together, with Jay-Z adding "that's right" a few times afterward.

They ended the song arm-in-arm, standing under a portrait of the late Coretta Scott King.
