Marie Osmond has countersued her former agent, claiming he's made "extortionist demands" against her and defamed her as well.
TMZ has obtained the legal papers, filed in the arbitration case between Marie and former manager P. Karl Engemann. Marie wants $2 million from Engemann for the damages she claims he caused her.
The legal docs assert that Engemann "tried to extort Osmond to pay more compensation to him...by defaming and disparaging Osmond to third parties."
Osmond claims Engemann derailed her plan for a talk show by bungling the negotiations. She also says he screwed up her negotiations with "Dancing with the Stars" and her Nutrisystems commercials.
In addition to the $2 mil, Marie wants punitive damages.
Marie Osmond is an ungrateful celebrity who screwed the man who rebuilt her career -- according to the man who claims he helped rebuild her career.
Karl Engemann -- Marie's long-time manager -- says he resurrected her career, only to be fired and defamed by Donny's little sis.
Marie's lawyer, legal pit bull Marty Singer, tells TMZ Marie fired Engemann -- the father of Larry King's wife, Shawn -- "because he acted in an inappropriate, improper manner and breached his fiduciary duty to Marie." Singer also says Engemann defamed Marie, and she'll go after him for "substantial monies" and establish he has no right to more commissions.
Engemann's lawyer, Larry Stein, calls the attacks against his client "scandalous" and "scurrilous."
Marie is now making a bundle -- $125,000 a show in Las Vegas for starters -- and Stein says it's all Engemann's doing.
Attorney Stein, tells TMZ, "Shamefully, Ms. Osmond has fired Mr. Engemann 18 months into a 5 year written contract and seeks to enjoy the fruits of his labors without compensating him for his work."
The matter is currently before a private arbitrator.
Here's 49-year-old Mormon diva Marie Osmond (left) in Vegas this week -- and Yasmin from the Bratz doll collection (right). After a long battle in federal court, one of them is being pulled off shelves forever.
Sources on the set of "Dancing With the Stars" tell TMZ that Marie Osmond's fainting spell was scripted -- to the point where she had a writer just off camera feeding her lines when she stood up! Our moles say Marie has a writer on set at all times, prompting her with witty conversation. One on-set source says he was in position when Marie went down -- and didn't miss a beat.
And get this -- Marie, we're told, is seriously on the hunt for a "successful guy." We're told she's asking some highfalutin people if they know someone who's available. Marie is divorcing hubby number two.
Marie's rep tells us that reports of a writer on set are "absolutely false." "There is no writer on set feeding her lines," she says, "Her manager is there and we (her publicists) are there but no one is feeding her lines." As for a fake faint? Her rep says that's "ridiculous. Why would anyone fake fainting on a live TV show? That show happened during the wildfires and Marie has allergies, there was smoke in the air which was extremely toxic. The trailers for the show are outside the stage and she was breathing the air. It's happened before." And lastly, the rep says Marie is NOT on the prowl. "She's going through a divorce," we're told, "She's not looking to meet someone now -- she wants to spend time with her kids. Dating is the last thing on her mind."
On tonight's "Larry King Live," the "Dancing with the Stars" star was blindsided by Larry King who asked if 16-year-old son Michael was in rehab. What would Brigham Young do?! She confirmed that he was admitted last week -- the same week Marie's father died at his home in Utah.
Osmond got choked up while talking about her son, telling Larry, "He is the most amazing kid ... it's been a hard week." Still, Marie managed to go on with the "Dancing" show.
Various Osmonds assembled at a Chicago airport, where the nearly 100 of them took up most of a terminal. Security!
The grieving group is gathering for the funeral of Osmond family patriarch, George, who passed away Tuesday at the age of 90. Services were held Friday in Utah.
Is there a "Dancing With the Stars" curse? Tragedy seems to have befallen several cast members recently. Just last week Marie Osmond infamously fainted during a live broadcast, and today word came that she sadly lost her father, George Osmond, patriarch of the singing Osmond clan. And Jane Seymour's mother passed away last month.
Marie Osmond blamed the California wildfires for her collapse on "Dancing with the Stars" last week -- but Maksim Chmerkovskiy has another theory.
Cameras caught the "Dancing" stud shopping on Robertson Blvd. on Saturday, where he told photogs that Osmond likely fainted due to malnutrition -- "They gotta eat, they gotta stop losing weight. All the celebrities are taking it too seriously!"
Just moments after Marie Osmond busted out an intense samba routine, she hit the dance floor even harder -- passing out cold on tonight's live broadcast of "Dancing with the Stars."
As the judges stared in shock, host Tom Bergeron kept his composure and quickly threw to commercial while Osmond was sprawled out on the floor.
But all concerns were eased after the break, when Marie was up and moving around backstage. According to Bergeron, the first thing Marie said when she came to was, "Oh crap."
Osmond then explained her breakdown on camera, saying, "Once in a while it happens to me ... I stop breathing. I'm so sorry." Uh, might wanna get that checked out.
No sympathy points from the judges -- Osmond only scored 21 out of a possible 30 points.
Forget the CIA or FBI, the most heavily-guarded list in the country belongs to ... ABC?! After TMZ published the names of the latest cast of "Dancing with the Stars" on Monday, we've learned that furious ABC brass called a meeting to address the leak with members of the show's crew. TMZ strikes again!
Well placed on-set sources tell us that execs, fearing someone would leak the cast to TMZ, gave the show's staff and crew names that may or may not be 100% accurate. For the love of Valerie Plame!
While the official announcement will be made tomorrow, counterterrorist spies have confirmed to TMZ that Marie Osmond will appear on the new season. Sleep well, America!
She's made it with all limbs in tact after two weeks, but blonde amputee Heather Mills says she "terrified" of performing on next week's "Dancing with the Stars." That's because next week, contestants will be asked to jive their way through the competition. Jiving, a fast-moving, energetic form of swing dancing, has got Mills concerned. Says the estranged wife of Paul McCartney, "Im worried about next week; I've got to do the jive -- you try and hop on a leg that's like concrete and the other leg bounces up and down like a trampoline."
Mills wowed watchers this week when she and partner Jonathan Roberts worked a back flip into their routine and eked out a score of 18, keeping them safe, while fellow competitor and model citizen Paulina Porizkova was axed.
Ashlee Gives Mayer the A-OK
What's good for the Simpson goose is good for the Simpson gander: On Friday, an Ashlee Simpson pal told People magazine that Jessica's younger sis thinks the big-headed college-rock crooner is "great" for Jessica. "Ashlee loves John. She thinks he is great for her. More importantly, Jess is happy."
People also reports that Jessica pal and fellow pop tart Christina Milian also put the stamp of approval on the budding romance, saying, "Clearly this is a relationship that's not for the cameras. It's not about celebrity. It seems like they truly have an attraction to each other, and they're both clearly very talented as well."
Earlier this month, Mayer and Simpson took a romantic trip to Rome. They were spotted most recently canoodling out and about in L.A.
Alec Baldwin Supports Our Troops
Even though he doesn't support the war in Iraq, actor Alec Baldwin does support our troops. Page Six reports that after reading an article about a high school senior who enlisted to serve in the Middle East, Baldwin "wanted to do something to help her." So the "30 Rock" star is helping pay Army Pvt. Resha Kane's college tuition.
Resha Kane, says Baldwin, reminded him of his own daughter Ireland, and though he's dead set against the war and the president, Baldwin says, "This isn't about politics. Regardless of my political positions, I've always had genuine admiration and appreciation for the troops."
Baldwin initially wanted to make an anonymous donation, but the family chose to publicize his good deed. "It's very generous," said Resha of Baldwin's support. "Actors have all this money, and it's a good thing to see them do something other than for themselves and show some character and use their money wisely."

The pair was shooting the romantic comedy in Queensland, Australia, when a venomous Irukandji jellyfish was spotted in the water, forcing everyone to evacuate the area. ... The five-time Grammy winner says he plans to wed the stylist by the end of 2007.
TMZ has learned that Marie Osmond spent two days in a Utah hospital last week following a bad reaction to prescription drugs, but her rep denied a National Enquirer report that the incident was related to a suicide attempt.
"She had an adverse reaction to some medication she was taking," said Amy Hawkes, a spokeswoman for Osmond. Hawkes confirmed that Osmond spent two days in Timpanogos Regional Hospital, but disputed a report in the Aug. 14 issue of the Enquirer that Osmond, depressed over family problems, intentionally swallowed two bottles of pills and scribbled a suicide note with lipstick on her bathroom counter.
The tabloid said the drugs involved were Adderall, used for Attention Deficit Disorder, and Klonopin, an anti-anxiety drug. Hawkes declined to confirm that those were the drugs involved.
