Maybe Matt Dillon should have been considered for the "Mission Impossible" spy role instead of Tom Cruise -- because he's gone undercover!
The normally serious and always depressed-looking actor was spotted at a Coffee Bean by a TMZ staffer over the weekend, and instead of giving the barista his real name, the super slick Dillon told them his name was Joe.
Yes, he's that lame.

Matt Dillon decided not to shoot his snide remarks at one of the adult photogs at Il Fornaio -- instead spewing an insult to the only underaged snapper on the sidewalk, Austin.
Wahhh. I'm Matt Dillon. Wahhhh.

TMZ caught Janice Dickinson attempting to "save" the world's critters from Paris and Britney -- well, at least the puppies in the Malibu Country Mart! Also in L.A, hunky Matt Dillon drivin' his Benz as a photog makes a waggish remark, the usually smirky Damon Wayons outside of Mr. Chow - not smiling, and studly Hayden Christensen chatting up the paps at LAX.
On the opposite coast, Sandra Bullock and Anne Hathaway both receiving warm paparazzi greetings as they arrive at NYC airports.

Matt Dillon isn't familar with how TMZ treats people who like to hit.
Without saying a solitary word, the other Dillon brother walked right up to a TMZ photog in New York this weekend and smacked the s**t out of his camera. Not cool, dude! After the sneak attack, the not-so-tough guy walked off in a huff -- only to stop a few seconds later to stare down our shooter.
What's he so pissed about? It was the public that had to endure "You, Me and Dupree"!
In a statement to TMZ, Dillon's rep claims "You don't show the part of the footage where the photographer kept hassling him. He wouldn't have pushed the camera away if he hadn't."
For the record, that footage doesn't exist as our photog shot every frame of footage from the other side of the street -- until Dillon approached him.

While film junkets can sometimes be a boring affair, Moviefone's Unscripted series offers up something unique: The stars of the movies they're promoting interview each other.
When Kate Hudson, Owen Wilson and Matt Dillon sat down for the interview for their film, which opens today, it was no surprise that the trio couldn't stop laughing. When Hudson revealed her most embarassing moment on set with Lance Armstrong it was definitely hard for them to keep a straight face.
"The only thing uncomfortable for me that day was having my butt in Lance Armstrong's face," said Hudson, "so it's like I was straddling you [Owen], licking your face face and being like 'hi Lance, it's really nice to meet you.'"
"You stole his thunder that day,' said Wilson of Armstrong's day on set, "you came out in the bathing suit, it's like Lance, Michael Douglas and I got reduced to Beavis and Butthead."
"You, Me and Dupree" opens today in theaters.

In "You, Me and Dupree" Owen Wilson once again plays the uninvited guest, only instead of crashing weddings this time he's a really annoying guy crashing on a friend's couch.
Wilson plays Dupree and told reporters at the Hollywood premiere of the film last night that there's definitely a little bit of his character in him.
"I think for my older brother I was a little bit of a Dupree when he was first married. Sometimes they would even try to lock me out to get some privacy. One time I had to go in to get some clothes and I ended up going through the crawl space and falling through the ceilings. That didn't help the marriage."

Kate Hudson, Matt Dillon and funny man Owen Wilson are grouping together for a summer laughfest in their new movie "You, Me and DuPree."
Matt Dillon plays Carl Peterson, Kate Hudson's husband in the flim, and describes his onscreen wife as "endearing, as well as easy on the eyes," and when being asked about having a possible crush on his co-star he admits "It's kind of hard not to."
Owen Wilson plays best friend to Carl and annoyance to Hudson's Molly, felt a little pressure from his stunning blonde co-star. Hudson clearly has gold popcorn statues in her dreams and told Wilson,"If we dont get the MTV award for Best Kiss, it's not worth it."
Kate's always been easy on the eyes but her life has gotten even hotter since picking up a sexy extracurricular activity: pole-dancing. When asked about her new obsession she gushes that "It's so much fun, it's the best time."
"You, Me and Dupree" opens in theaters everywhere July, 14th.

Allegations of betrayal, out-of-control egos and greed
By TMZ.COM STAFF
(Mar. 6, 1:20AM ET) -- Two producers allege in a lawsuit that an “outsider” financially and creatively raped them in a quest for fortune and glory.
In a suit filed in Los Angeles Superior Court, Cathy Schulman and Tom Nunan claim that Bob Yari “succumbed to his greed and ego” by allegedly underwriting ‘Crash,’ then allegedly wrestled it away from them.
Schulman and Nunan claim that Yari has refused to pay them for their share of their fees for ‘Crash’ and other projects.
The suit reads like a lurid novel. Schulman and Nunan claim that Yari acted like “an impetuous child” when ‘Crash’ was nominated for various awards.
Schulman and Nunan claim that Yari’s alleged misdeeds are about glory as much as money. They allege Yari was able to wrestle credit for ‘Crash’ away from them and thereby rob them of the ability to get the all-important bounce from the movie that would make them more desirable to the Hollywood machine.
An interesting note in the lawsuit – the bankroll to film ‘Crash’ totaled only $10 million, small potatoes in Hollywood. The movie has generated more than $175 million in revenues to date.
The suit claims after the Producers Guild of America declined to credit Yari with ‘Crash,’ he went “berserk,” accusing Schulman of engineering that decision.
The suit asks for an unspecified amount of compensatory damages, as well as punitive damages.
In an independent lawsuit, Yari has sued the Producers Guild of America for denying him credit for the film.
Ironically, during the acceptance speech for Best Picture, Schulman thanked Yari several times for his contribution.

The blockbuster comedy 'Wedding Crashers' put the spotlight on a longtime underground practice: people showing up uninvited at weddings. Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughn made the fun so convincing, the movie just may have influenced the rise in people crashing weddings.
So TMZ took an an informal survey of wedding-reception halls around New York City and Los Angeles, and found that there actually have been an increase in wedding crashers, especially since the movie's July 15 release.
"Most wedding crashers are between the ages of 16 to 21," reports Lorin Kalin, director of Belmont Shore Chalet, a popular wedding-reception hall in Long Beach, Calif. "Because it's young people who want to sneak in to get alcohol. The movie may be the reason for why more people are crashing weddings, but the people who crash weddings usually aren't going to say that it's because of the movie."
'Wedding Crashers' was the top-grossing comedy of the year, taking in $209 million at the U.S. box office. New Line Cinema will release the movie Jan. 3 on DVD in the original R-rated version, along with an unrated version.
The movie, which stars Wilson and Vaughn as the title characters, highlights the romantic complications that can occur when people show up uninvited to a wedding.
Those awkward wedding-crasher situations also happen in real life, says Kalin. "At one wedding reception, there was a teenage couple: a girl and her date. But the girl's boyfriend was also at the wedding and didn't know she was going to be there with another guy. It got really testy and it looked like there was going to be a fight, but security calmed everyone down."
Teenagers may be the easiest wedding crashers to spot, but Kalin says that older professionals -- like the ones portrayed in the movie by Wilson and Vaughn -- may get away with more if they fit in with the crowd.
And what happens when wedding crashers are outed at the event?
Kalin continues, "If there's security, they usually ask the bride and groom if they'll allow the uninvited person to stay. If the wedding crasher isn't causing any problems, they usually get to stay."
'Wedding Crashers' may be considered the copycat movie of the year. (Thank goodness it wasn't 'Miss Congeniality 2: Armed and Fabulous'.) So we started wondering about which upcoming 2006 flick could inspire a bunch of copycats?
Some possible contenders:
'John Tucker Must Die,' starring Jesse Metcalfe (the hot gardener on 'Desperate Housewives'), is about a high-school stud who's unknowingly set up by three of his girlfriends who join forces to find another girl to break his heart.
'The Benchwarmers' stars Rob Schneider, David Spade and Jon Heder as three guys who try to relive their childhoods by starting their own baseball team and taking on the best elementary school baseball players in the state. Wow! Talk about arrested development!
'You, Me and Dupree' tells the story of a newlywed couple (played by Matt Dillon and Kate Hudson) and how they deal with a house guest (Owen Wilson) who's overstaying his welcome ... really seriously overstaying his welcome.
