Dennis Quaid is a lucky man ... because last night he was about 1 inch away from getting arrested for DUI.
It happened at Philippe restaurant in West Hollywood early this morning. Quaid, his wife Kimberly and a friend walked outside and the valet had already brought the car up ... the motor was running.
They got in -- Quaid behind the wheel. It looks likes Quaid may have moved the car a foot when a cop pulled up alongside and urged Quaid not to drive.
Dennis responded that he didn't want to drive. The cop repeatedly said, "Get out of the car." Quaid responds, "What do you want me to do." Quaid then asked the cop if they could go back inside the restaurant and the cop said yes.
They went inside and came out a short time later to a waiting cab. The paps screamed "You don't want a DUI. You don't want to end up like Mel Gibson." Everyone, including Dennis, laughed and they drove away.

In what seems to be their first public display of affection, Mel Gibson put his arm around his unwed pregnant 39-year-old girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva after they broke bread in Manhattan on Wednesday.
Oksana is due with the 53-year-old conservative Catholic's eighth child some time this fall.

Mel Gibson's 2006 DUI is now officially off his record.
Judge Lawrence Mira just signed legal documents in Malibu, expunging the misdemeanor DUI from Mel's record.
The judge noted the conviction still is relevant for "gun control purposes." It can also be used as a prior conviction if Gibson gets popped for DUI in the future.
Mel's lawyer, Blair Berk, requested the motion to dismiss on September 21 after Mel successfully completed the terms of his three-year probation.
So, it's kinda like a legal version of Yom Kippur ... he atoned for his sins and he gets a clean slate. Mazel Tov, Mel.

UPDATE: 11:06 AM ET. We've learned no one is expected to show up in court. The judge has the legal papers from Gibson's lawyer, Blair Berk, in his chambers and we're guessing he's going to sign them and expunge Mel's DUI today.
The Mel Gibson DUI/"The-Jews-are-responsible-for-all-the-wars-in-the-world" saga may come to an end in a little more than 2 hours. Mel's lawyer will ask a judge to expunge the conviction from his record.
Mel was arrested in July, 2006 on the Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu. Initially authorities told TMZ the arrest occurred "without incident." But later that day, TMZ obtained 4 pages of the deputy's original notes that were taken out of the revised report -- 4 pages with a blow-by-blow of Mel's anti-Semitic rant.
Mel pled no contest to misdemeanor DUI and was placed on 3 years probation. Gibson has completed all the terms of his probation and it's not unusual at all for his lawyer to request that the conviction be expunged at the end of the probation period.
We'll be live streaming the action in Malibu at 8:30 AM PT, so stay tuned.

Mel Gibson will ask a judge to expunge the DUI heard round the world.
We've obtained legal papers (on Yom Kippur, funny enough) revealing that Gibson's lawyer, Blair Berk, will go to court in exactly one week and ask the judge to remove the DUI from Gibson's record -- because he has successfully completed all the terms of his 3-year probation.
You may recall Gibson was arrested in Malibu back in July, 2006 and went on an anti-Semitic rant that authorities tried to bury. TMZ broke the story of the tirade after obtaining four inflammatory pages that had been removed from the deputy's report.

ABC News -- the organization Roone Arledge and Peter Jennings built -- has turned into a bad version of US Weekly ... wussing out during an interview with Mel Gibson's baby mama.
Oksana Grigorieva, the chick who got knocked up by Mel, was on "GMA" this morning. She was booked solely for her singing prowess ... so the "journalist" said. We're sure that's because Oksana was a household name long before she hooked up with the King of Malibu.
Not a single question was asked about Mel, her relationship with him, his marriage, her out-of-wedlock pregnancy with a very religious man -- nothing. But good news -- they really focused on her singing!

This is a photo of the guy Mel Gibson allegedly went off on last night -- after the actor reportedly ripped apart his t-shirt for trying to snap a pic of him and his GF Oksana Grigorieva.
As we previously reported,the "victim" went to LAPD Hollywood Division and filed a battery report against Gibson.
We're told Gibson allegedly ripped the shirt after telling the dude and his friend to please walk away and not take pictures.
Law enforcement tells us the "victim" suffered no injuries ... the whole thing is over a torn shirt. This looks like a small claims court case if we've ever seen one.

TMZ has just obtained this shot of Mel Gibson with GF Oksana Grigorieva inside Playhouse in Hollywood last night -- before he allegedly got too hands-on with a photographer who tried to take their picture.
Someone is at the LAPD's Hollywood Division right now filing a battery report against Mel -- who reportedly became irate at a photog and ripped the guy's shirt open.
Gibson -- who had an infamous DUI case in 2006 -- is currently in the midst of a pricey divorce with estranged wife, Robyn.

Someone is at LAPD's Hollywood Division right now filing a battery report against Mel Gibson.
Mel was at a club last night with GF Oksana Grigorieva when a photog tried taking a pic but coudn't get the shot because of security. According to Hollyscoop.com, the photog's friend stepped in and tried to get the shot, but that reportedly irritated Mel to the point he ripped the guy's shirt open.
That's all we know so far.

Mel and Robyn Gibson say they have irreconcilable differences, but not when it comes to keeping their finances private.
We've learned both Mel and Robyn filed a joint request -- essentially asking the judge in their divorce case to keep info about their finances private. The judge saw it their way and signed the order on Friday.
According to the order, neither party (and that includes their lawyers) is allowed to disclose any information revealed in the discovery process. That means all of the financial documents that have been requested to establish the value of the Gibsons' estate can't be released directly or indirectly to the media.
As we first reported, the lion's share of the estate is real property -- houses and what not. We're told the total value is less than the $900,000,000 previously reported -- but it's still a fortune.

Mel Gibson's pregnant girlfriend is suing her former manager for hawking pictures and musical recordings of her without her permission.
Oksana Grigorieva, who's in her second trimester with Mel Gibson's baby, is suing Sammy Oriti claiming he bamboozled her into believing he was an experienced producer.
She claims in 2005, she recorded four demos of original music. The lawsuit alleges Oriti is out making money off of her voice on the Internet and elsewhere.
She also says she had racy lingerie photos taken for the record, and he's making money off them too.

Mel Gibson's divorce is rolling along, but we're told it ain't gonna be as simple as a clean 50/50 split.
First of all, it looks like Mel's reported wealth -- $900,000,000 -- is inflated. The business people are still figuring it out, but a huge portion of his net worth is tied up in real estate. As one source put it, relative to his wealth, there's not a lot of cash involved.
That's not to say Mel and Robyn are living on a budget. They have millions in the bank ... we're told Mel is pulling in about $17 million on his latest movie project.
Now here's where it gets complicated. Some of the real estate is being held in trust for their children. As for the rest of the real estate, it's not a good time to sell, but we're told they will most likely have to liquidate the lion's share of these assets for their property settlement.

At Saturday night's "Guy's Choice 2009," Brad Pitt went there -- and called Mel Gibson the same lovely name he called a female police officer during his infamous DUI arrest, "Sugar T*ts."
Not so funny when it's you, is it Mel?
