Meredith to Roker -- You Bloody Twit-Wit!

Al Roker made a big no-no when he whipped out his camera phone to Twitter from jury duty -- and according to the "Today" show graphics department and Meredith Vieira, who was in London this morning, it's an international scandal.

Jon & Kate Plus Denial

Jon and Kate Gosselin were supposed to hit the "Today" show together this morning to present a united front against accusations that Jon is nailin' another woman -- but someone chickened out.

Kate Gosselin: Click to watch!

Kate (and her hair) was left to defend her hubby's actions all by her lonesome -- which she only kinda sorta did. Kate also told Meredith Viera that she and Jon -- who both star on a reality show which documents every minute detail of their lives -- will deal with this situation in private.

Stephen Colbert: "I Have Twatted"

Was it a Freudian slip ... or did Stephen Colbert and Meredith Viera reveal a little more than they intended this morning on "Today" when they tried to admit to have used Twitter in the past?!

Meredith Locks Up With McMahon Over Benoit Murders

Click to return to TMZ.comMeredith Vieira went toe-to-toe with Vince McMahon on this morning's "Today" -- questioning the WWE honcho's stance that steroid use had nothing to do with Chris Benoit's grisly double murder-suicide.

Vieira was quick with a left hook to McMahon, asking him how WWE could make such a statement before toxicology results were revealed. Vince stuck to his guns, saying a press release sent out earlier this week was "reacting to the hysteria of the media," telling the press to quit speculation that "roid rage" was a factor in the killings -- until evidence proved otherwise.

On Monday, the WWE said the murders of Chris Benoit's wife and 7-year-old son were not an act of "roid rage," because "the physical findings announced by authorities indicate deliberation," and cited as evidence the time between murders and the leaving of Bibles by the bodies.

Vieira Raps Rev. for Racial "Double Standard"

Meredith Vieira turned the tables on Rev. Al Sharpton this morning, blasting him for not doing enough to stop black rappers from using words like "ho" and "b**ch" in their lyrics while excoriating Don Imus for doing so. Snap!

Sharpton was on the "Today" show this morning to react to Imus' firing by MSNBC, and the Rev. repeated his contention that Imus' place on the "public" airwaves made him responsible -- and ultimately culpable -- for his "nappy-headed hos" remark. Vieira then challenged Sharpton, demanding to know why he didn't hold hip-hop and rap artists more responsible for "spreading the message" of demeaning and abusive language, and accusing Sharpton of perpetuating a "double standard."

The Rev. explained that his organization, National Action Network, was working to get more rappers with "positive messages" onto the airwaves, but acknowledged that those rappers weren't getting exposure.

Not Ready for Their Closeup

High-definition television displays everything in stunning detail -- too much detail for some TV personalities.
Katie Couric, Diane Sawyer, Meredith Vieira, Brian Williams
A high-ranking ABC executive told the TV technology website TVPredictions.com that it's common practice for networks to soften their HD image (sometimes by using specially-made HD camera filters) to make their talent look better. "For years, we've softened the image for certain performers," the executive said in an e-mail to Phillip Swann, President and Publisher of TVPredictions.com. "To do so in HD is just a continuation of that."

Readers of TVPredictions.com complained on the site's message boards that shows like "NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams," "Good Morning America" and "Today" don't look as good as most HD programming -- presumably because of covering up the flaws of their hosts. "CBS Evening News with Katie Couric" has yet to go the HD route. Swann has referred to her as "not HD-friendly." Ouch.

Madonna on Her Adoption: "People Don't Know"

MadonnaIn an interview airing Wednesday and Thursday on "Today" and Wednesday on "Dateline NBC," Madonna tells Meredith Vieira in detail about her controversial adoption of David, a 1-year-old boy from Malawi.

When asked about the media coverage the story has received, Madonna said, "With all the chaos, pain and suffering in the world, the fact that my adoption of a child ...who was living in an orphanage, you know, was the number one story for a week in the world. To me, that says more about what...our inability to focus on the real problems. And our desire to have distractions and to be consumed with people's personal lives and gossip."

A Frightful Halloween on "Today"

The annual Halloween extravaganza on the "Today" show took a rather ghoulish turn on Tuesday morning, when Meredith Vieira's first big entrance as a "Today" co-host was conspicuously unseen.

After Ann Curry and Natalie Morales sauntered somewhat awkwardly onto the stage as Cher and Madonna, respectively (the theme: divas), the big reveal -- Vieira coming out Bette Midler-style as a mermaid in a clamshell -- fell flat, and viewers were treated to the truly horrifying sight of a stagehand's denim-ed bottom, and several seconds of confused fans in Rockefeller Plaza. (The footage, oddly reminiscent of the scene from that Disney mermaid movie where Ariel doesn't appear, got cut out in the later feed to the West Coast. )

Matt Lauer started things off somewhat more convincingly as Capt. Jack Sparrow from "Pirates of the Caribbean," and Al Roker was nearly unrecognizable as a "Pirates" sidekick.

TV's Top News Ladies: Will They Sink or Swim?

With Meredith Vieira's debut on "Today" this morning, the game of musical anchor chairs between Vieira, Katie Couric and Rosie O'Donnell is now complete. So we're left to wonder: which of these women will score big in the ratings and which will fall flat on her face?
Meredith Viera, Katie Couric, and Rosie O'Donnell
Couric scored 13 million viewers in her debut as anchor of "The CBS Evening News" and, while her audience declined slightly by week's end, she still led NBC and ABC by three million viewers. But week two has gotten off to a poor start as Katie dropped to third place on Monday with 7.49 million viewers, slightly behind ABC's 7.87 million and NBC's 8.27 million.

Katie anchored Monday's newscast, the fifth anniversary of 9/11, from Ground Zero and seemed to have trouble holding back tears as she closed the telecast.

While rumors of Rosie O'Donnell clashing with her fellow "View" co-hosts have surfaced (who didn't see that coming?), Rosie's debut on the show also equaled ratings gold -- four million people tuned in, a 54% bump over the same day last year.

Sources have told TMZ that Rosie has complained about the show's production and that Elisabeth Hasselbeck has been openly hostile to her. Rosie even butted heads with Barbara Walters before Rosie even debuted -- Walters didn't approve of Rosie's cryptic blog messages she wrote on her site.

Rosie's rep denies rumors of bad blood, saying, "Everyone gets along great."

And finally, it will take a few days to see how Meredith Vieira does in her new locale, but the former "View"-er did show signs of at least being somewhat nervous (who wouldn't be?) as she flubbed a line on her first toss to commercial break.

Vieira Joins "Today" Tomorrow

Meredith Vieira: Click to watchMeredith Vieira's got an early start tomorrow as she prepares for her first morning on "Today," but she's not worried about her new wake-up time.

"I've watched Matt [Lauer], I watch Al [Roker] and Ann [Curry] and Natalie [Morales] and Campbell [Brown], they all seem ok, they aren't snoozing in the commercials," says Vieira, who's old gig at "The View" started minutes after "Today" wrapped for the day.

"I'm ready to start and I can't wait to start ... the longer we have to think about it, the more anxious I get. I've been there enough to know the people are fantastic," says Meredith, admitting she still has one hang-up, "I still am really bad at names, it's Matt right?"

Meredith Could Redo "The View"

Meredith VieiraAs she preps for her big debut on the "Today" show next Wednesday, Meredith Vieira says she could return to her old show "The View" – as a guest host – but that she hasn't had time to watch Rosie O'Donnell's first week in the seat she vacated.

What's more, Vieira says her producers on "Today" made their "biggest mistake" when they asked her to bring some "personality" to the show.

Meredith: "View" Not A Joke, Actually

So it was all just a big misunderstanding: Meredith Vieira says that she didn't really mean that her old show "The View" had become "a joke" when it was printed in a recent interview. What's more, her ex-boss Barbara Walters had threatened the physical safety of her husband if it had in fact been true.

Vieira explains that the quote from Time magazine, which certainly caught the attention of a plethora of media outlets, was taken out of context. "I felt that the media was turning ["The View"] into a joke, not that the show was a joke," she says.

Meredith Calls "The View" A "Joke"

Meredith VieieraHow about this for a hot topic: Meredith Vieira now says that her old show "The View" is "hard to watch," that she got "blasé" about it after nine years, and even that it "sort of became a joke" after she left.

All of which should provide fodder for an interesting discussion when the current "View"-ers -- Barbara, Joy, Elisabeth, and, of course, Rosie -- get back to the studio next week.
