Divatastic Patti LaBelle knows when to strut her stuff and when to duck and cover. Cameras caught belle LaBelle as she headed into her NYC hotel, cloaked in a ... well, a cloak.
Hours later, LaBelle had a new attitude -- and looked stunning as she hit up Russell Simmon's birthday bash. The legendary songstress graciously explained her earlier hide-and-seek episode, saying, "I was cute, but I wasn't cute," and then happily posed for pics.

Don't mess around with Patti LaBelle! Patti proved that you shouldn't -- by verbally stomping all over a fan who was invited on stage during her performance!
The young man was very close to LaBelle, when she jokingly told the Kansas City audience, "He was dancing too close to me!" The fan then said, "I think you wanted it more than I did!" The audience roars with laughter, but the look on Ms. LaBelle's face shows she's not amused!

Identity Theft Ring Preys on Paris
A Philadelphia identity theft ring targeted hundreds of people, including Paris Hilton! 
The postal villains used celebs' personal information to make up fake checks and apply for credit cards, reports local CBS affiliate KYW. Victims of the mail fraud include Patti Labelle, Whitney Houston and J.Lo.
Two people were arrested yesterday in conjunction with the scam. The scheming scammers used postal service change of address forms to redirect stars' mail to their North Philadelphia row home.

LaBelle Pushes Cancel Button
Lady Marmalade didn't want to get in a jam.
Patti LaBelle pulled the plug on her sold-out "Gospel According to Patti" mega-church tour, citing inconsistencies, breach of contract and failed obligations of the promoter -- leaving disappointed fans in Philadelphia, Cleveland, St. Louis and elsewhere.
"I really had hoped to continue to reach the gospel audience ... but I have an obligation to my staff to make sure they can keep their plans without last minute changes and to make sure they are paid for the work they do," said the OneTouch spokeswoman and long-nailed warbler. Good lookin' out, Patti.
Patti is hoping that they can find another promoter to handle the tour. Her CD, The Gospel According to Patti LaBelle, is #1 on the Billboard Gospel chart.
TMZ contacted the promoter, Impact Strategies of Washington, D.C. Our calls have not yet been returned.
