UPDATE 6:08pm: Bruce Springsteen has posted a statement on his website, brucespringsteen.net: "I hesitate to use this website for anything personal believing it should remain a place where fans of my music can come free of the distractions that occasionally arise with the rest of my job. However, due to the unfounded and ugly rumors that have appeared in the papers over the last few days, I felt they shouldn't pass without comment. Patti and I have been together for 18 years- the best 18 years of my life. We have built a beautiful family we love and want to protect and our commitment to one another remains as strong as the day we were married."
Bruce Springsteen and Patti Scialfa threw some cold water on rumors that a split between the two of them was imminent with a little antique-shopping trip last Friday -- and even gave fellow patrons an impromptu concert.
TMZ spoke to Judy Barnaby, a manager at the Antique Center of Red Bank in Red Bank, NJ, about an hour from New York City, who told us that the couple showed up on Friday afternoon and perused the store's antiques for about an hour, holding hands and acting "not at all different" from their customary behavior.

If K-Fed actually had something to lose, he'd definitely be on the list for his Hall of Shame rendition of "Lose Control." But that's the funny thing about the velvet noose; there's always plenty to go around.
Patti Scialfa:There are two immovable facts about the New York Post-fed gossip that Bruce Springsteen has secretly split from Scialfa, his wife of 20 years, in favor of a 9/11 widow he met while helping organize a special WTC telethon. One is that newspapers will have a field day with the musical double entendres ("E-Street Shuffle," "Hungry Heart"...). The other is that when your husband APPARENTLY ADDS A SURVIVOR OF America's worst terrorist incident TO THE MIX, you're caught between a rock (and roll star) and a hard place. If this sticks, look for the Springsteen single "Soccer Mom" sometime next year.

The New York Post reports that Bruce Springsteen's long time marriage to Patti Scialfa is in deep trouble.
The alleged problem is Bruce's blossoming friendship with a stunning 9/11 widow the Boss met when he organized the "America: A Tribute to Heroes" telethon. The two have been spotted several times at the Beacon Hill Beach Club and the Stone Pony, the Asbury Park watering hole made famous in "Glory Days."
The Post quotes several "friends" of Springsteen who can't seem to decide on whether the couple is on the rocks or not. One friend says "They're separated, but everyone has been sworn to secrecy," while another friend states "He's just a really big flirt. There's nothing going on. Bruce and Patti are very much partners. They go at it a lot and fight, but they also work at it a lot... Patti is a strong woman. They are not going anywhere." Confused yet? So are we.
A Springsteen representative declined comment.
