He knew Michael Jackson better than anyone (he says their souls were joined) -- now record producer Quincy Jones is speaking out about the singer's death ... and some of Jackson's "issues."
In an interview with Details mag, Jones says Michael never accepted his race: "It's ridiculous, man! Chemical peels and all of it. And I don't understand it. But he obviously didn't want to be black ... You see his kids?"
Jones also reveals Bubbles the chimp once bit a hole in his daughter's hand ... who knew?

We just received the following statement from Quincy Jones, who produced Michael Jackson's legendary "Thriller" album:
"I am absolutely devastated at this tragic and unexpected news. For Michael to be taken away from us so suddenly at such a young age, I just don't have the words.
Divinity brought our souls together on The Wiz and allowed us to do what we were able to throughout the 80's.
To this day, the music we created together on "Off The Wall," "Thriller" and "Bad" is played in every corner of the world and the reason for that is because he had it all...talent, grace, professionalism and dedication.
He was the consummate entertainer and his contributions and legacy will be felt upon the world forever.
I've lost my little brother today, and part of my soul has gone with him."

It's the unkindest cut of all. A man as big as Quincy Jones getting hauled into small claims court.
An audio production dude claims he did $3,100 worth of work for Q over a two week period last summer and got nada.
To put this in its proper context, Q has reportedly pulled in $220,000,000. Is this further evidence of a deep recession or just another bogus suit against a rich celeb?
For the record, we believe Quincy spends more than $3,100 on the person who lights his cigars.

One is a music king pin. The other is the king of pin ups -- scratch that, smut. So knock us over with a feather when we got "Girls Gone Wild" kahuna Joe Francis and Quincy Jones out together last night at Nobu.
The neighbors (yes, neighbors) are actually good friends -- and, according to the NY Times, Quincy even went with Joe's 'rents to Florida when he was thrown in the slammer last year.

Reformed playboy and newlywed Usher hosted a fundraiser to support Katrina victims at club LAX at Luxor in Las Vegas this weekend. Hurricane shots on the house!
Playas on hand to punch up the night included; music legend Quincy Jones, R&B superstars Jon B and Babyface, Doug E Fresh and Chris Tucker.
Tucker showcased his, er, vocal stylings to some Jackson Five. Easy as ABC! TMZ recently caught Chris out with Quincy Jones and Lionel Richie -- could a possible album be in the works? Let's hope not. But anything's better than another "Rush Hour" sequel.

He's got hos in different area codes, but only one birthday, and rapper Ludacris is celebrating it in Sin City! Luda celebrated his 30th birthday last night with a celeb-studded party at Rio.
Producer Quincy Jones and actress Gabrielle Union passed birthday wishes, and "Everybody Hates Chris" actress Tichina Arnold serenaded the rapper/actor with a soulful rendition of "Happy Birthday."
Luda's nearest and dearest enjoyed a sit-down rappalicious dinner and watched some of the Atlanta rapper's favorite movies, including "Scarface" and, his own movie, "Crash." He's modest, too!

Hyde didn't disappoint Star Catcher this weekend: Joe Francis and über-producer Quincy Jones showed up together, and so did legendary adult film star Ron Jeremy. Former "Punk'd" star Dax Shepard shared a laugh with a friend, while Hyde regular Lukas Haas was there in all his tattered hat glory.
Kristin Cavallari arrived and told TMZ's Josh Levine that the single life was "fantastic." International star Bai Ling posed for the cameras, while Jack Osbourne couldn't have been bothered.
The good sport of the night award goes to "Pirates of the Caribbean" producer Jerry Bruckheimer who allowed a clearly drunk member of the junior Republican party take his picture.
