Roman Polanski Tries to Buy Himself Out of Jail

Roman PolanskiIn Monopoly, you can fork over a couple of hundred bucks to get yourself out of jail. Switzerland is apparently just like Monopoly.

Roman Polanski's French lawyer, Herve Temime, says he will be filing a new bail proposal on Monday and it will be a "very, very significant" cash amount. Swiss authorities shot down a different offer on Friday, but reportedly it did not involve cold, hard cash.

Temime wouldn't say how much Roman would lay on the table. We're guessing two giant sacks with dollar signs on the side should do the trick.

Roman Polanksi Undergoing Medical Treatment

Roman Polanski has been moved from jail to undergo medical treatment, his lawyer announced today.

Herve Temime wouldn't go into too much detail, telling Reuters, "All I know is that he has been taken from prison for medical attention. I don't know where he is or when he will be returned to prison."

Polanksi has been in a Swiss jail since being arrested three weeks ago to face extradition to the U.S.

Roman Polanski -- Get Comfortable

Roman PolanskiThe Swiss Justice Ministry has denied Roman Polanski's request to be released from prison pending a decision on extradition.

According to the Ministry, there's still a high risk that Polanski might go on the run if released from custody. Go figure.

Polanski's lawyers asked the Swiss judge to release him from custody ... on grounds the move by U.S. law enforcement to haul him back was illegal.

Story developing ...

Polanski Agreed to Pay Off Victim in 1993

Court docs that just surfaced say Roman Polanski agreed to pay his victim $500,000 in damages back in 1993 -- but records don't show if he ever paid.

The last court filing shows the amount increased to $604,000 in1996 due to interest.

Polanski hasn't lived in the US since he fled in 1978.

Sharon Tate's Sis -- Polanski Didn't 'Rape'

Debra Tate -- the sister of Roman Polanski's second wife Sharon Tate -- doesn't want the director hauled back to the U.S. to be prosecuted.

Tate went on the "Today" show this morning, claiming Polanski wouldn't get a fair trial stateside for the rape of a then-13-year-old-girl back in 1977 -- because our "system is broken" -- and the matter would be better served in France ... whatever that means -- France can't prosecute him.

Tate added there's a difference between "rape and rape" -- and this was "a consensual matter."

Polanski Lawyers Fight -- Chalet Jail a Possibility

Roman PolanskiRoman Polanski's lawyers are angling to block any extradition attempt by asking a Swiss judge to release him from custody ...on grounds the move by U.S. law enforcement to haul him back was illegal.

Polanski is currently in a prison cell in Zurich, Switzerland. There's now talk that he could be placed on house arrest while lawyers fight it out. Here's the best part -- the house would be Polanski's Gstaad chalet .... nice work if you can get it.

Polanski fled the U.S. after pleading guilty in 1977 to having unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor. The judge in the case reneged on the plea agreement and that's when Roman beat a hasty retreat to France.

The decision on whether to free Polanski is expected to take weeks.

Polanski's Minor Setback Gets Major

Roman Polanski Director Roman Polanski's attempt to get his 31-year old child sex case disqualified by all judges in L.A. County has failed.

Polanski was asking the L.A. Superior Courts to disqualify all judges because he thinks they are biased against him. But Superior Court Judge Peter Espinoza isn't buyin' the argument -- claiming there are 600 judges in the system, and at least one of them will be qualified to handle the case.

But here's the catch -- If Polanski decides to show for his upcoming January hearing, he'll be arrested on sight.

Polanski pleaded guilty to unlawful intercourse with a minor in 1977. He fled the country -- the girl was 13.

What if Your Kid Were the Anti-Christ?

The wave of horror movie remakes continues next week, when the 1976 classic 'The Omen' gets a makeover. The original film tells the story of Damien Thorn, born on June 6 at 6 a.m., who is switched at birth in Rome with the murdered infant of an American diplomat.

Liev Schreiber steps into the role of Robert Thorn, who doesn't tell his wife (played by Julia Stiles) that their biological baby died after child birth. He lets her believe Damien is their own flesh and blood. Little do they know, their child is actually the anti-Christ, destined to create hell on Earth.

Schreiber believes the remake is certaintly warranted and will still resonate with audiences, saying, "I think this film freaked so many people out in 1976 and I think that it will freak as many people out again in 2006, and that is because I think it does tap into something cultural."

Mia Farrow also stars in the film, taking on the role of Damien's creepy nanny and willing servant, Mrs. Baylock. This marks a vast departure from her role in Roman Polanski's demon-seed flick 'Rosemary's Baby,' where she played the unwitting mother of Satan's spawn.

The film, which premiered Wednesday night in New York, opens June 6 (the sixth day of the sixth month in the sixth year, 666, get it?).
