TMZ has learned that Academy Award red carpet staple Sally Kirkland was hospitalized for exhaustion this weekend, but has since been released.
A rep for Kirkland issued the following statement exclusively to TMZ:
"Ms. Kirkland was admitted to an outpatient hospital for exhaustion and sleep deprivation. She has been treated and released, and thanks her fans for their ongoing support and prayers."
We're told Kirkland, 66, is resting at home after filming three movies back-to-back, is feeling better and will be back to work later this week.

Oh no she ditn't!!
TMZ has obtained a photo of Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie on the set of "The Simple Life," with one-time Oscar nominee Sally Kirkland in full-on blackface and an afro! Cards and letters to Ms. Kirkland! As TMZ reported in May, Nicole talked Kirkland, who plays a drama teacher, into donning the controversial getup to portray Lionel Richie in an episode of the reality show. Paging Rev. Al!
While the racy episode airs July 29 -- the fallout starts now!

Wes Craven: Scarier than "The Hills Have Eyes II," funnier than "Pauly Shore is Dead," this week's battle royale between the 67-year-old horror meister and his wild card Hollywood Hills neighbor Pauly Shore -- might be the silliest lawsuit since Tara Reid sued that Las Vegas condo developer for a billboard that invited her to come "let it all hang out." Couldn't Craven have settled this some other way than a Superior Court motion claiming "severe emotional distress and anxiety?" Like, maybe by getting The Weasel to promise never to slip a script under Craven's door? Adding insult to injury is the fact that when TMZ.com followed up its exclusive report with a friendly housecall, it was Craven's peep -- not Shore -- who acted like that high school bully for whom the filmmaker allegedly named Freddy Krueger.

At the forefront of civil protest, leading the cause of the moment, actress/Oscar attendee Sally Kirkland appeared outside of Lynwood jail yesterday, pleading for mercy for Paris Hilton, but from the look of Kirkland, she's the one who could use some mercy! Nurse!
Looking as if someone woke her up about five minutes before the protest, Miss Kirkland took the time to plead for prayers for Nicole Richie too, calling the wayward "Simple Life" stars her "angels." Oh Lord! Kirkland, who'd worked with Paris and Nicole as an acting coach on the series, was interviewed alongside a mob of Paris supporters numbering at least half a dozen.
The talented, vagabondish actress then led the protest into nearby streets, where she seemed lost in the confusion, or perhaps just confused. Paris' lawyer, Richard Hutton, unseen by the protesters, happened upon the scene and could only shake his head in disbelief at the groundswell of support for the heiress/convict.

Things are going to get a bit racy on the new season of "The Simple Life."
TMZ has learned that an upcoming episode of the Paris & Nicole "reality" show features actress/fashionista Sally Kirkland playing the socialites' Camp Shawnee acting coach (not that they need any help in the drama department!), and was made to look like Nicole's father, Lionel Richie -- in full on blackface and an afro! Hello!
Sources tell TMZ it was Nicole who somehow talked Kirkland into donning the controversial getup after the two got into a shouting match when Nicole wouldn't perform Shakespeare. To drive, or not to drive! TMZ spies say the taping was simultaneously "frightening and hysterically funny." Much like the paparazzi pals themselves!
A rep for "The Simple Life" had no comment. "The Simple Life Goes to Camp" premieres May 28 on E!

Actress Sally Kirkland believes Anna Nicole Smith's breast implants played a significant part in her need for pain medication, and possibly her death. Sally nearly died from them herself.
Kirkland, a Best Actress Oscar nominee in 1988, told TMZ that she believes "Silicone played a part in the emotional and physical breakdown of Anna Nicole's body." Kirkland, who at one time had 38DD silicone breast implants, met Smith in 1992 when the two were "a similar size." Sally says she herself was poisoned by her leaking silicone implants, and had to take Vicodin and other pain medications to alleviate suffering from the crippling pain. Kirkland believes Anna was probably enduring the same ill effects -- the reason she needed methadone and Demerol prescriptions and "appeared out of it a lot of the time."
Now healthy and implant-free since 1998, Kirkland also feels that Anna "may not have consciously known the dangers" associated with silicone implants. In 2006, the FDA allowed silicone implants back on the market after a fourteen-year ban. Kirkland has been an anti-silicone activist for years, and hopes that Anna's tragic death is a wake-up call on the dangers of the implants.
